Hi,

I just started about a month ago, so I'm in the same boat as you are. I do have some advice if you have the time and a good printer.

All you have to do is take a look at your starter deck(by the way, which one do you have?) and look at what combo is good for you. Then get a good idea of what other trainers, supporters, and pokemon you wish to use. Next, just type in the card's name on google, yahoo, etc.. Copy and paste the image on some type of word document, excel, etc.. and then make as many copies as you want.

I've found some pretty cool ideas just using copies. I started out just buying packs though, and only ended up with like 3 of the cards I really wanted.

After all this(if you want to do it), and you have an idea of where you deck will be headed, then you can start working on obtaining those cards.

Hope this helped you some.

That's funny, that's the exact same deck I started with. I ended up switching it over to a Electric/Fire deck before I stated using proxies. Electrode G is a uncommon (I believe) that can do 20 damage to every pokemon on the other player's field, but he also does 100 to himself(which kills him). It works pretty well with Arcanine though since he uses Over-run.

Other trainers and supporters that would work well with SP pokemon are:

Flint's Willpower - lets you attach another energy during your turn to a SP
Energy Gain - makes the attack of an SP one less.
SP Radar - Add a card from your hand to your deck, then search for a SP pokemon.

I know the big SP deck is the Infernape E4/Luxray GL deck. I'm not a big fan, but it's a big hit right now.

Well, I guess it all depends on what you want. I bought several starter decks to get different trainers and supporters that I knew were good. Such as Bebe's Search, Felicity's Drawing, and Roseanne's Research and my Luxury Ball. As far as pokemon for your deck, I would say a mixture of Rising Rivals and Supreme Victors.

Again, it really all depends on where you want your deck to end up at. Why dont you post a list of your deck and we can go from there. It may also get some other guys to post their opinions and views.

Okay, so mostly still the starters. Here is my take. Your main guy from the starter, Arcanine, hits for 40 then 20 to the bench. You also have Infernape, which I'm thinking is the Elite Four version, the one that does Split Bomb for 20 to two pokemon. I would aim for a few more SP Pokemon, and add in their support cards such as Flint's Willpower, SP Radar, and Energy Gain. This will speed up your deck and allow you to attack for less energy.

Here is something close to where I went with my first deck using the SP pokemon.

Pokemon
Arcanine G (2) from the starter deck
Infernape E4 (2) Rising Rivals
Electrode G (1) Rising Rivals
Raichu GL (2) Rising Rivals
Crobat G (2) Platinum

Supporters
Roseanne's Research (2)
Cyrus's Conspiracy (2)
Cynthia's Feelings (2)
Flint's Willpower (2)

Trainers
SP Radar (2) aim for 4 though
Energy Gain (4)

Energy
Psychic Energy (2)
Fire Energy (6)
Electric Energy (5)
SP Energy (4) can count as any energy when attached to a SP Pokemon.

This is just a draft of what would be good. Of course there are better cards that other people will mention, but I know for a fact that Amazon and other card stores will have all of these for like $0.50-$2.00 a copy, so It wont break your wallet. Good Luck.

One of the best ways that I've found to get started is to get two of the same theme deck, and combine them. It won't be a super competitive deck, but it's *significantly* better than just one theme deck and a bunch of random cards. Also, try building a single type deck first out of those cards. One deck only. I'd focus on the Grass aspect of your deck, as Venusaur is pretty strong and Masquerain can draw a ton of cards very quickly.
