Everything else isn't crap. Very good cards not on your list:
- Psionic Blast
- Plague Sliver
- Sedge Sliver
- Ancestral vision
- Call of the Herd
- Mystic Snake
- Serra Avenger
- Shadowmage Infiltrator
- Jaya ballard
Only the red and white Magus are good and Restore Balance is crap. I also really like Stonebrow, Krosan Hero. It's basically a 6/6 trample for 4 mana, and it can boost your Scab Clan Maulers.

How do you figure? Restore Balance is so amazingly good. I can't even imagine how anyone could believe this card is less than decent, let alone "crap"... Tell you what, i'll trade you Stonebrow for Restore Balance?
---edit---
also, Magus of the Mirror is good, fits in nicely with a suicide black deck (Sangrophage, anyone)>. Magus of the Jar is just BEGGING to be combo'd.. isn't Megrim in 9th? Not staple, but i'm sure someone will break him.

It comes out turn 7 earliest (talk about slow) and the effect is symmetrical and only useful in a deck like balancing tings. Balancing Act is a whole lot better, and I don't think anyone thought Balancing Act was amazingly good.

How about Curse of the Cabal? When I joined the pre-release tourney, it was one of my most powerful cards (out of luck lol) in par with Avatar of Woe (which I also got from the same booster XD). CotC is a good pressure card and forces opponents to forcefully sacrifice their permanents. I think this will also be a chase rare, seeing that it's suspend cost is only 2BB and it suspends for only 2 turns. (Clockspinning, anyone?)
I also believe that Avatar of Woe will be a chase rare (and she is HOT *grins*). As for ancestral vision... I got two in the tourney (one from the main deck and one from my prize *grins*). Will this really be a chase rare? I mean, it's good an all, but once turn 4 hits, it can easily be countered by your opponent (which my opponents during the tourney DID...).
Jaya Ballard IS HOT but I think that she won't be that much in demand. She's easily shockable (or SUDDEN SHOCKABLE LOL) and she demands too much from you. She's a great runner for a full-burn deck and a madness/flashback deck, but I can see her weakness all too well. Comments?

If your opponent uses up their mana to counter ancestral visions, that means you open to cast as you please. If they dont, you get 3 cards. Sounds like a win/win situation. I busted two of these, and they proved to be strong for me, I already got my playset, and I will be testing contructed with them soon.

Top-decker
Psionic Blast doesn't just give players 8 chars to work with, it allows blue the ability to kill things. MUC and aggro are going to return, and Psionic Blast is going to be a staple in all of them. Not to mention U/G also benefits greatly from Psionic Blast, since U/G has only been lacking in one area, and it has been removal.

There are two hidden weaknesses to ancestral visions besides the pseudo-vulnerability to countermagic:
1) The game might not last another 4 turns, particularly with one of your cards hanging out in the RFG zone doing nothing.
2) There's no guarantee that the 3 cards you draw will be relevant, or that even when you draw them, that you'll have played appropriately to what you wind up drawing (from the disconnect in information).
It's still a powerhouse card, but I think a lot more people will be playing them as 3-ofs than you might first expect.
Rift bolt remainds hands down the best suspend card in the set.

The Timeshifted cards arent really going to be chase rares IMO since you can just get most of them in their original form. They will never be worth more than the original unless they are foil. Slivers don't have enough support in the set to make them worth much. Jaya is on my list if you didn't know, looks like someone didn't read before they posted...
All the magi are good, they are just too situational. The green magus should be on par with the white and the red one. Stonebrow isn't bad, but he is legendary and is just a 4/4 for a 5cc, not 4cc. Now if he gave all your creatures trample...
Purples -
CotH you can get for 3$ at the moment, as well as finkel. Mystic Snake isn't going to be a chase rare. I do agree that Psionic blast is going to be saught after, but do you really need 8 Chars?... Definitely going to be easier to get the old ones. Good thing I already have my originals of the purples
I think the underdog of the purples will be Sacred Mesa. I've had my playset since Mirage!
You know that Psionic Blast was only printed in Alpha and Beta right? It's already a pricey card. And like it's bee mentioned, it's not just eight chars, it's blue burn. It allows Fish to shoot you or a blocker in the head. It gives blue a new option it hasn't had in a very long time. And really, would you be upset with 8 chars?

I'm open to any suggestion for a better turn 1 play in a U/x control deck. Sleight of Hand? Sit on Spell Snare mana?
This is in the same Standard as Magnivore and Compulsive Research (so you can get rid of a dead one late game). It's either taking Tidings' place or Sleight of Hand's place in the deck, and I'm more inclined towards Tidings (as more low cost sorceries == fatter Magnivore faster).
