    Default Deck Discussion: Domain

    DOMAIN

So here it is folks the domain thread for those of you out there just bursting to play with a deck chock full of all five basic lands.
To begin with I’ll post the original theme deck and all of the cards that were in that deck and then from there ill post some other domain decks.
Ravnica is being released soon and it seems that domain looks to gain some great new cards. Which has inspired me to create this thread.

    Domain
    Planeshift Theme Deck
A five-color deck without any one land that can produce multiple colors? A deck that's over half lands and land-fetching effects? Can a deck like that work? It can, and the Domain deck is a blast to play!
Because all the "domain" cards depend on how many basic land types you have in play, this deck focuses on getting at least one of each basic land into play. The best color for solving mana problems is green, so the deck contains more forests than any other basic land. Quirion Trailblazer, Primal Growth, and Harrow are all important for getting basic lands into play. You'll find that playing Harrow can often mean the difference between winning and losing.
Once you have all five basic land types in play, the fun begins. You'll probably take some damage early in the game, but the Domain deck contains some cards to help you recover. Wandering Stream will often gain you eight or ten life, and Exotic Disease can close the gap between your life total and your opponent's. At just 1R, Tribal Flames could deal 5 damage to an annoying creature (or your opponent). The star of the domain show is Allied Strategies. For just 4U, you could draw five cards! Your creatures certainly aren't slouches, either. Once all five basic lands are in order, Wayfaring Giant hits the table at 6/8, and Stratadon is a menacing 5/5 for five mana.
Domain includes a few cards that aren't true domain cards, but they work well in the deck. The "dragon charms" are great utility spells. Between Rith's Charm and Treva's Charm, you can solve almost any problem you'll face. Magnigoth Treefolk is a big, unblockable creature that begs to be enchanted with Strength of Unity. Quirion Dryad can grow to huge proportions over the course of the game.
To improve the deck, you could take out some creatures and add more Tribal Flames and other creature-control spells. If you're fond of playing creatures, take out some of the catch-up spells and replace them with the best creatures in any color.

Collective Restraint: with all five basic your opponent has to pay 5 to be able to attack you with any one creature
Global ruin: destroys all but one basic land in mono coloured decks and will often leave you with five lands
Allied strategies: with all five basics in play this will net you a five card draw
Collapsing boarder's: not in the above examples
Evasive action: domains version of mana leak

Kai Budde used this deck to win the Grand Prix London tournament in 2001. His kill card was Ordered Migration.

I've always been a fan of Domain decks, but most of your input is outdated. Examples:

Where are your Sakura-Tribe Elders? These things are key to a good manabase now a days. Almost everydeck that requires green, mana fixing or extra land runs these.

Deed? Where is pernicious deed? This thing is the perfect solution against most troublesome cards.

sensi's diving top is also really good in this type of deck. Allied strategies is too slow in extended, except, perhaps, as a card to be wished for. the diving top is cheaper and faster, which, is much more important in extended.

kodama's reach is plausible now that tog is viable again.

fetchlands: the onsaulght fetch lands are easily the best lands this deck can have. Combined with the new dual lands in the next set, mana fixing should be easy.

    example of revived decklist:

    1 polluted delta
    7 forest
    3 island
    3 plains
    3 swamp
    3 mountain
    2 windswepth heath
    2 wooded foothills

    3 etched oracle
    4 STE

    2 genju of the realm
    2 evasie action
    4 Sensi's divining top
    1 Mirari's Wake
    1 Global Ruin
    3 kodama's reach
    3 Deed
    3 collective restraint
    3 vindicate
    4 burning wish
    2 gifts ungiven
    1 mana leak

    Board:

    2 evasive action
    2 global ruin
    1 vindicate
    2 crainal extraction
    1 decree of justice
    2 engineered explosives
    1 allied strategies
    1 hautning echoes
    2 All sun's dawn
    1 deed

Keep in mind this thing is merely a rough sketch, comments are welcome.

PELOQUIN- you should try to provide your own, up to date list. While looking into the past to provide solutions is a good idea, u must keep in mind that the metagame and card pool back then is largely different from the meta and card pool we have now. Best of luck to Domain this upcoming season!

I think we have a lot to draw from. We have Gifts that is in block that plays 5 colors, we have the old domain deck, and then 5-color green. Lots of decks to draw ideas from. I end up with something like this. I dont have a SB yet as that will be incredibly hard to do in a 5 color deck AND not being sure of the metagame, this decks weaknesses, and the percentages therein.

    Creatures
    4 Sakura, Tribe Elder
    3 Etched Oracle
    2 Eternal Witness
1 Bringer of the Black Dawn
    1 Meloku, the Clouded Mirror

    Stuff
    4 Kadoma's Reach
    4 Lay of the Land
    4 Moment's Peace
    4 Global Ruin
    4 Collective Restraint
    4 Gift's Ungiven
    3 Pernicious Deed

    Artifact
    1 Clearwater Goblet
    1 Legacy Weapon

    Land
    9 Forest
    5 Island
    2 Plains
    2 Mountain
    2 Swamp
    4 Windswept Heath

Orim's Chant could have a place in here also. Maybe Wish's. Who knows, there are too many options to list.

well then, let's narrow down this list shall we?

We're start with the mana fixing:

    Lay of the Land
    Chromatic Sphere
    STE
    kodama's reach
    harrow
    Fetch lands/new dual lands

Lay of the land: 1 mana for 1 land. great opening play, sucks if u draw it late. (same with reach and harrow)

sphere: 1 card and 1 mana for 1 card and 1 mana. useful if your opening hand doesn't include the right lands. (u know, 5 green spells, 1 island and a swamp )

STE: best mana fixing tool right now. the fact that it walks and blocks makes it a really good card.

kodama's reach: socery speed sucks, but u get a good mana jump. arcna isn't too useful, but there good be a use or too (not sure what though)

harrow: it's instant speed, which is great. the lands come into play untapped, which is highly useful (in reponse to spell, play harrow, play mana leak/evasie action) the additonal cost though, sucks if it gets countered

fetch lands: never a bad thing, there'll colorless, costless and provides mana fix. use wooded foothills and windswept heath the most, since they get u to your green mana.

New dual lands: Ravinca looks like the perfect set for this deck, and the new dual lands help that claim. with these things, we could get to domain by turn 3 or 4! (fetch lands and dual lands are realllly nice together )

so, what would be the right mix? with fetch lands at hand, the sphere hardly seems worth it. STE is an auto 4x of. Land of the land, while a good opening, doesn't exactly match the raw power of STE or harrow/reach.

as for harrow and reach, i guess they depend on the meta. i honestly don't know, i haven't tested this deck much, but for now, here's what i would include:

    4x STE
    3x Kodama's reach
    2x wooded foothills
    2x windswept heath
    2x polluted delta

comments are nice, feel free to disagree

The reason I didnt include the new duals is because the majority of the current land search wont work. Tribe-Elders, Harrow, and Kodoma's Reach all say "basic land". With Tribe-Elders and Reach we can get domain by turn 3-4 anyway because they put lands into play.

If you do feel the need for fetchlands and Ravinica duals, dont forget the 3 that will be in the 2nd set of the block. I dont know which they will be but someone may.

I think we should really iron out the rest of the deck before the mana base. We need to figure out how much of a given color we need.

i personally think gifts is overrated in extended i would much rather see a gifts then a fact or fiction. if u need an answer u generally cant get one because they get to choose what happens. in block its good just because its slower in extended it wont matter much becuse u will just get comboed out or up heavaled. i think dark deals deck is good but i would find away to get duress in there it is great against everything but gobblins. also i would work on a beter win condition
