Default Chaos Evolution - Part 1 of 3

Some of you may recall I was making a set a while back. It's been finished for a while, but I kept forgetting to update. And since the other thread's so old, I figure'd I'd just repost here, for anyone curious enough to read.

    A Lurking Evil:

Far away from the strife that plagues other realms, the inhabitants of Eruya prepare themselves for a rare and mystical event. The Rising, which occurs only once every ten thousand years, is soon to take place. This celestial phenomenon rejuvenates the already strong bonds of mana that run unseen through the very fabric of the plane. It is a sacred event, both revered and feared. The Rising represents a new beginning, and the energy it channels can be seen radiating from Eruya's sun, creating a brilliant spectacle.

But with the Rising comes trouble. In the distant plane of Eruya, dark forces gather in the shadows, silently growing, waiting for their chance. For the Nightmares, the Rising presents a powerful opportunity. Using an ancient and evil device known as the Timekeeper, the Nightmares plan to absorb the energy released during the cosmic event, destroying Eruya's sun and casting the plane in eternal darkness-a darkness in which they will rule forever.

Alac and Selisk, twin brothers and newfound planeswalkers, come to Eruya to witness the Rising firsthand; however, the Nightmares, who sense darkness in the heart of Selisk and the power he commands, convince him to betray Alac and join their search for the Timekeeper. Alac, who survives his brother's Betrayal, sets out with the help of Seye, a brave Elven explorer, and Harthos, and elderly dragon who also senses the rise of the Nightmares, to stop the monster Selisk Darkheart and the Nightmares before they can carry out their evil plan.

    Geography of Eruya:

    Sairon-
A peaceful but powerful kingdom that stretches across vast plains. The people of Sairon themselves are easygoing and kind, but the Halzor, the angel-like spirits to whom they pray, are vengeful and oftentimes ruthless, though they will defend their worshippers to the bitter end.

    Grekt-Ur-
A giant swamp located well beyond the boundaries of Sairon and the forests of Leruor. The vicious Quagmire is host to a gruesome array of denizens, from hideous monsters and werewolves to necromancers and their hordes of undead.

    Leruor-
A very dense, lush forest bordered by the kingdom of Sairon and the Tair River. This forest is home to many elf tribes and beasts of various sorts, and is believed by some to have some hidden magical powers.

    Mountains of Tavom-
An expansive, uncrossable mountain chain that runs as far as the eye can see and well beyond. Goblins, dragons, and elementals inhabit the mountainside, preying on foolish wanderers, and occasionally, themselves.

Tair River and the Great Sea-
A wide, winding river that flows from the mountains of Tavom and into the Great Sea, a vast and deep body of water. Both are habitats to merfolk, sea serpents, and all manor of exotic and unsavory aquatic beasts.

    Other locations:

    Aghtor-
A festering Wasteland nested within the swamps of Grekt-Ur. Shinzath, the center of the Aghtor wastes, is the breeding ground of the Nightmares-a system of dark caverns, clogged waterways, and bubbling pits where no mortal dares to tread.

    Halfol-
A mystical rock tower set in a canyon far away from any settlement. It is said to hold a powerful healing magic, though any expedition to Halfol has not resulted in such a discovery.

    Kortiga-
A massive stone ruin nested deep within the forests of Leruor. Few have ventured there, and even fewer have returned. Those who do return such feral magical powers that grow so far beyond their control that they evolve into something not quite mortal, but far more intelligent and bestial.

    Ogota-
A large, well-concealed valley within the Tavom mountain range. A forest grows on the valley floor, but nothing corporeal dwells there. Amongst the goblin tribes, it is a place where elementals and spirits converge, cunning and aggressive deities that show No Mercy to any mortal who dares to enter their domain.

    Svaldor and Selvezi Districts-
Two halves of a very large industrial city situated on the fringe of the kingdom of Sairon and along the Tair River. The district of Svaldor is more industrialized, housing the majority of the ironworks in Sairon. Furnaces burn night and day, and the heat and smog are thick, yet tolerable. On the opposite side of the river lies the Selvezi district. While serving as the main city and market for those on its side of the river, it has developed a bad reputation of hiding outlaws, criminals, and misfits, and is the source of much twisted magics and experimentation. It also has a growing problem with pesky werewolves from the not-too-far-away mire of Grekt-Ur. A single large bridge spans the river, and is the only thing connected the two districts.

    Zivas-
A magic 'buffer' that lies on the Svaldor side of the Tair River Bridge. Any dark magics or creatures cannot pass through this barrier, though it doesn't stop some from trying-nor from smuggling them across the waters of the river.

    Seye Velnam

An elf from a distant plane, Seye has traveled to the plane of Eruya to witness the Rising, hoping the intense flow of mana would strengthen her already considerable powers. As the festivities commence, Seye catches a glimpse of Alac and Selisk and, recognizing them as fellow planeswalkers and suspicious of their motives, shadows them in an attempt to ascertain their purpose.

After the meeting with Tavius, she tails the three men and waits outside the cavern that holds the Timekeeper. When Selisk leaves alongside a brutish black phantom, she decides to venture in. Finding Alac barely alive, she decides to take her chances and carries him deep into the woods to Harthos, where her fate, and the fate of Alac, is revealed.

    Kayuvas

Kayuvas is a strange individual, a pyromancer with no real apparent obligations, visible connections, or noticeable friends. To Eruya's inhabitants, he is simply 'there', a person of power who is to be left alone at all times. In his travels, he comes across a strange stone half-buried in the ground on the slopes of Tavom, a seemingly irrelevant trinked being worshipped by a few tribes of rather unintelligent goblins. The stone pulses slightly, a continuous throbbing that seems to Repel all wildlife. Unbeknownst to him, the reclusive planeswalker had just stumbled upon something that would alter the course of his destiny forever.

    The PlanesWalkers of Eruya

    Alac Braveheart

A fiery, determined young soul, Alac is the twin brother of Selisk and a newfound planeswalker. While having only just discovered his spark, his brother Selisk has been a 'walker for almost eight cycles. Alac had at first thought the gift to be unique to his brother, but Selisk knew better. He trained Alac intensely, waiting for the day his spark would ignite. Eventuallly, it did.

To celebrate the occasion, Selisk assisted his brother in his very first venture across the Blind Eternities to the plane of Eruya, where the mystical Rising would provide a spectacle unlike anything the two had ever seen. It was supposed to be a quick getaway; unfortunately, fate had other plans for the two brothers.

A dark presence felt the arrival of Selisk and Alac, an ancient evil that had been defeated long ago and forgotten in time. The Nightmares, a race of sentient, subversive shadow-beings that thrive in the darkness, seek to harness Selisk's power and use it for their own gain. In search of the fabled Timekeeper, Tavius, a cloaked and hooded (but nonetheless imposing) figure, forces an encounter with the 'walkers. Offering a great reward, Tavius implores the brothers to assist in his search for the legendary artifact-a source of raw power that no dark entity could touch. The brothers, suspicious but curious, comply.

When the three reach the Timekeeper, which is set deep in a system of illuminated caverns, Selisk becomes drawn to its glow. Alac, who notices a change in the cloaked form of Tavius, calls out to his brother in shock. However, Selisk appears locked in a trance, and continues to advance on the artifact. Alac attempts to stop him, but he is too late. When Selisk touches the Timekeeper, a wave of energy washes over him, teleporting the Timekeeper and knocking Alac back against the cavern wall. Tavius's form becomes beastial, then nightmarish. He hovers over Selisk, whose eyes have turned black. Beckoning him to follow, the monster turns to leave. Alac tries again to stop his brother, but Tavius stops him instead, commanding Selisk to kill him. With one swift motion, Selisk sends a dark pulse of energy into Alac, throwing him into the air and leaving him motionless.

Later, the planeswalker Seye enters the cave and discovers Alac, who is severely crippled, but alive. She brings him to a friend, Harthos, an elderly and wise dragon who resides in the forest of Leruor. Harthos and Seye care for Alac for two days until he recovers. When Alac awakens, Harthos relates to him the story of the Nightmares and how they came to be, twisted abominations created from the leftover dark magics used by the early inhabitants of the plane. He tells Alac that Selisk has obtained the power of the Timekeeper, a power capable of absorbing the mana released during the Rising and destroying Eruya's sun, a power which the Nightmares could not otherwise lay hands on. In order to prevent this from happening, Harthos reveals, they must track down Selisk deep into the Nightmares' lair and free him from the spell unknowingly cast upon him. But Harthos has no great powers, and the might of Seye and Alac combined may not be enough to break through the barriers between them and Selisk.

And for some reason, my relatively longer posts have to be approved by a moderator now. What, does the forum think I'm a spambot? I've been posting here for three years! Gah, I need bacon.
