Default Guy wants to fix up his old Fires deck

I've been playing for a decade now, but never for tourney play. My favorite deck, then dubbed 'thrasher', was in its various incarnations more or less a 'Fires' deck, (I had no idea this was a popular build back in the day until just a few days ago, like I said, I never kept up with the magic scene!). Anyway, I still enjoy alot of the old school mechanics of the deck, and would like to soup it up for local play, but if possible, I'd like to stray from most modern cards when doing so. I like to think some of the older cards have enough kick to remain solid in the modern scene, and I'd like help making it more viable in local tourney play. Also, as I didn't intentionally make a fires deck, I'd like to keep it different from the usual mix if possible. Well here it is:

    2 Acidic Slime
    2 Avalanche Riders
    1 Birds of Paradise
    4 Blastoderm
    4 Flametongue Kavu
    3 Horned Kavu
    1 Knollspine Dragon
    4 Llanowar Elves
    1 Shivan Wurm
    1 Thicket Elemental
    3 Thornscape Familiar

    2 Calming Verse
    4 Fires of Yavimaya
    4 Harrow
    2 Umbilicus

    12 Forest
    10 Mountain

As you can see, it has a few major differences from fires, mainly subbing some of my mana chumps for harrows. I know this throws my mana curve a bit, but to me never seemed to hurt its playability. Also, the deck originally was a mana basher by design, but over time changed to this, where it mainly serves to slow the other guy's curve just enough to keep on top. I tried out Umbilicus in the deck and fell in love with the way it complimented fires on maxing out the use of the creatures' innate enter abilities, so unless there's a better way, I'd like to keep it in. Mainly, I'd like to focus on this aspect of the deck and try to make it more versatile and combo-friendly as opposed to trying to sneak a win early in the game, like just about every other deck of this sort seems to try and do.

Yeah, the mix was definitely off. Friend came over and whipped me pretty good, with decks I've played and beat before. So any and all advice is welcome while I piece this thing back together

Okay, let me try a different approach. What would you (the TCG community) suggest to create a Fires deck in today's magic scene. I'm looking to buy cards, but not until I get some input from people in the gaming community. I'm aware this is an outdated build, and want to do something different with it. Wherefore art thine voices, Tcg? I'm open to any cool ideas you guys/gals can come up with.

Maybe alongside Mass Hysteria in a Primal Forcemage list? Just for fun, of course.

Cool! I looked up lists for Primal Forcemage, and I didn't see a consistent build of this sort. It's a neat card w lots of possibilities, but say I was using my deck as a template, what would need to be changed? I'm sure there are superior cards to replace many found in my deck, and if I were to go about replacing them, what would they be and why? I'm looking for good use of the mana curve, so if you would, could you break it down for me?

Honestly Fires of Yavimaya is a card that hasn't aged well. There are so many better ways to get haste, without waiting for the third turn, or spending mana.

For example I have a RG Wild Mongrel + Anger deck, that also has faithless looting. Free haste on turn 1 or 2 about 60% of the time minimum.

Aggro decks need to win by turn 4 in legacy, or combo or control (moat/Ensnaring Bridge) will win.

Anyways cut- Calming, umbicilous, harrow, thicket for sure.
