Infinite Fireball combo...

So I was playing EDH in a side event at the Nat's Qualifier this past weekend, and the dude across from me set up an infinite mana Fireball. It got countered by another guys Glen Elendra, but I never stopped to see how he got the combo.

My question is, how did he do this?! I know he had a Grim Monolith, enchanted with Power Artifact, but that's all I know. Can anyone figure out the piece that I'm missing? Thanks

the Power Artifact reduces the cost of the monolith's untap ability to 2. So you can tap it for 3 and untap it for 2 netting you a gain of 1 mana each time.

enchant Grim Monolith with Power Artifact. this makes its untap effect cost . so he can tap monolith for and spend to untap it and repeat the process. adding floating each time until he has the desired amount of mana and the all he needs is a red. this combo can be used with Banefire and is much more effective with it.

AHHHH got it. Yeah I didn't think about the paying for the untap with 2 of the mana he tapped for it. It's a pretty sick combo, nonetheless. Thanks!!

power artifact work well with manavault aswell if youre thinkin of giving the deck a try.
