    Far away across the field,
The tolling of the iron bell,
Calls the faithful to their knees
To hear the softly spoken magic spell ....

.... Pink Floyd, Dark Side of the Moon, Nineteen Seventy Whatever

Yes, I'm being cryptic. Intentionally so. Work it out. You guys are many things, but one of them isn't "stupid". Opinionated yes, but we all suffer from that, right?

I hate this set. It's Set# 4 (per year), frankly. I used to think it was set #3.5, but boy was I dumb. It's a new small set hidden inside a bigger set. It still works out to a 100% NEW set, per year, beyond the traditional three.

    It's a new (small) set.
    Like Coldsnap (unnecessary).

Like the unnecessary Shadowmoor set. Lorwyn/Morningtide/Eventide would have been fine, but ... no.

And now .... the unnecessary M10. The "new" M10. Screw Ball Lightning and Lightning Bolt.

    How do YOU spell "desperate?"

    I spell it D-U-R-E-S-S AND L-I-G-H-T-N-I-N-G B-O-L-T AND B-A-L-L .... oh, why bother?

    I quit.

Congrats, (WotC President) Greg Leeds. Hard noble fight you're fighting vs Hasbro Accounting. Excellent stuff man since you took charge in March 2008, but in the end Accounting always wins, and has done so since 1980 if you know the History of American Capitalism as well as I do.

4 new sets a year, every year since Coldcrap, no matter how much they wish to disguise it.

    In a recession.

    Think about it.

From where I--a complete Standard novice--sit, the decks that most players need to worry about are RDW and WW. I agree w/ RoninX that Silence is a beast in aggro and control. I can see WW dropping a Silence on Gruul's turn four, preventing that most-likely Bloodbraid Elf + random hasty creature swing. That's a huge play, as not only your board remains safe--and you get to reinforce your position--your opponent actually loses momentum. Gruul decks cannot afford to "lose momentum"...unless they have changed radically since i've last tested them

Speaking of Gruul, i really love that deck post-M10...but i love WW more

I'm really going to miss the enemy-color duals, and i hope green gets more than Great Sable Elk and Elvish Archdruid. I would go on to say that Elves is a big threat thanks to the latter, but with the departure of Llanowar Wastes i won't be able to see Archdruid making a massive Profane Command...

@Rakavolver: no Shadowmoor, no Ram-Gang, Wilt-Leaf Liege, no awesome filter lands that people have been hoarding over the past few months

Rakavolver: The "I quit" wasn't literal, was it? I think it's great that they're finally printing good cards in the core sets again.

I can tell that Raka is pissed about the econcomics of Magic, and how it reflects consumption and marketing.

That's why it's best to buy singles.

All I have to say is that every set is bound to suck until another deck trend comes along.

Then people are going to say how awesome the sets are; accounting for cards from said sets that made the deck the way it is.

Then people are going to say how much the sets are going to be missed once they're gone.

Then people have the option to play Extended, Limited, Vintage.. even Casual amongst friends!

Have fun with these changes, guys.

It was literal, but in all honesty M10 sucks. I've been hearing stuff about specific cards in this Core Set having power creep and that isn't always a good thing.

Zendikar will make things better both for the new players and the veterans hopefully, the new M10 terminology is bad enough and I officially hate Standard right now so I mainly play Type 1 Casual anyway.

In terms of Casual play Shadowmoor was a decent set with a few fun cards so I don't think it was totally unecessary though. Shards block on the other hand was alright...

Oh no, please, let me be clear. I LOVE the set: Shadowmoor. My complaint is that the 4-set block (notice how they've stopped that ) was one large set too many, and I just used Shadowmoor as an example. I could have said Lorwyn (a set I also love) was extraneous.

No, no more ranting from me on this subject, I've covered my hardest hardcore opinions in my last post on this thread. I will always wish Magic well, even if I've stopped buying product. It's still the 4th best game of all time, and No. 1 in terms of "fun," unless of course you think its three betters: Playing the Stock Market, Texas Hold-em Poker, and Chess (or Go if you're Asian) are more fun. Golf is the 5th best game IMO (the mental game of Golf is SO like Magic it's uncanny, which is quite odd considering how different their settings are), and whatever is 6th is a distant 6th. IMO, as always.
