DO you think this card has a home in 5CC Tom? And if so, do you think it could replace the Ultimatum?

Still can't get over it. If only signets were in standard... This card is stupid! We learned our lesson with Cruel Ultimatum that high CC doesn't mean unplayable. I need to abuse this card.
way ahead of you on that thes good for taking out fellow planswalkers or grabbing thire beat stick

He has great abilities, don't get me wrong. And, we are seeing higher casting costs seeing play in a lot of formats. However, do you seriously think a card, that costs 8 mana, will swing the game when he can't win it for you 2 turns later?
The reason Cruel & Hellkite, and many of the other high CC cards are being played is, they win, or very close too it, when played. Not win 2 turns later, they win the turn you play them, or swing the game the turn you play them.
He'll see lots of casual play, but I don't see a planeswalker of this cost, to be played over, say, Cruel Ultimatum, especially when they're the same colors.

But Nicol Bolas will swing the game the turn you play him. An irrevocable control magic or a creeping mold are pretty powerful options. Don't get caught up in the ultimate having to go off for this guy to be solid.

I think there's potential for this. My roommate says he's certain he can sneak this guy into play 4th turn consistently. I haven't seen his list yet, but we'll see what happens. And if it's true, then it's:
Turn 4: Blow up a land (8 loyalty)
Turn 5: Blow up a land (11 loyalty)
Turn 6: -9 of doom (2 loyalty)
Turn 7: Blow up a land...
Continue...
I'm kind of scared of that particular idea.

Yeah, you could totally sneak this guy in a WW deck playing Windbrisk Heights...even on turn three!!!

Sadly, as I was its captain, the 5 Color ship has sank. There're just better options in standard, I feel like block will be where we see this man. After all, me and some friends keep wondering why outside of Cruel Ultimatum and Agony Warp, why Grixis had nothing good... Now it has this guy. If you really want to push it in standard, Spinerock Knoll is a solid option. The only problem there is that it's pretty "Win More," because you just dealt 7 in one turn. I think it's too early to say if he'll see play or not. It sucks for him that Pithing Needle shuts him down.

I gotta tell ya Tom, Grixis is looking quite tasty right now. Red got alot of gifts it would seem. Banefire being the biggest with Volcanic Fallout a close second. UBR already has access to alot of tier one cards - Cryptic, Thoughtseize, Agony warp like you said and ofcourse Cruel Ultimatum. So I think with enough work UBR control could really work in the new Standard season. Theres even scope for things like the Girxis Specter and Blightning. So Grixis seems to have alot of options.
I, however, won't be tinkering it. I've spent too much money investing in UBw Lark...although knowing me I will probably take a heightened interest in the colours and end up switching just before Grand Prix. I always ruddy do!
