A Classic With a Little Twist: World Finest pt.1
Shadowtrooper inspired me. When I was reading his My Beloved blog he said something about the Vs community not sharing enough even though not all decks are perfect. So I decided to share with you today World's Finest
Well I'm new to VsTCGPlayer, but I've been playing Vs System since Marvel Team-Up. That's about 2 years now and as I caught up I made ALOT of decks. And one personal favorite is a deck I update/revise and put my own twist to it all the time: World's Finest.
Yep, Batman/Superman deck is a classic. And today I'm blogging on my own little twist to World's Finest deck and that's defense. So don't expect any At Their Finest or Brains and Brawns because this deck isn't meant to focus on Superman & Batman like the classic version of WF but on range/defense and strong attacking.
This is part 1 of 2. Golden Age the next one is Bring You Own Set
Strategy:
The reason I went with a defense style deck is because the people I play against play VERY agressive decks. I mean decks like Live Kree or Die somehow have alot of attack pumps throughout the deck and it can be annoying when every deck I play somehow has 4 copies of Savage Beatdown (especially the store owner then again he has like every card that's been printed so yeah...)
This deck is set to win late game. This is from turns 5-8 so defense is needed for very agressive decks. Also you probably won't being doing much damage until turn 4.
Characters:
Lois Lane, Star Reporter x2
Alfred Pennyworth, Faithful Friend x3
Krypto, Guard Dog of El x2
Kelex, Faithful Servant x3
Batman, World's Greatest Detective
Barbara Gordon <> Oracle, Hacker Elite x4
Huntrss, Harsh Mistress
Superman, Last Son of Krypton x4
Superman, Metropolis Marvel
D!ck Grayson, Rough Justice
Cassandra Cain, Death's Daughter x2
Brahma, Supermen of America
Batman, Cape & Cowl x2
Superman, Deterrent Force x2
Kara Zor-El <> Supergirl, Claire Connors
Alright off the bat, I don't have 4 copies of Alfred. So 3 is good enough. I have 2 copies of Lois Lane because well you can get her in play with no cost and get a card in your hand. I'm using the early game to set up for the later game.
Locations play a pretty big part in this deck, so Kelex was needed to search for one of 3 locations: City of Tomorrow, Gotham Central and Kandor, City in a Bottle. Notice the 3 locations benefit those in the support row which is exactly what I need for this deck.
Krypto is here because he's a monster of a 2 drop and if I do get one of my locations early (preferably Kandor) he can do some early damage.
Barbara Gordon is the ideal 3 drop for Gotham Knights and it was hard finding someone to replace her. She's concealed so she shouldn't be attacked and she gets that free draw which always comes in hand. Always.
I went with Batman 3 drop from DOR because I don't have Batman, Founding Member and he KO an ongoing plot twist. But once my Founding Member comes in you bet I'll be replacing this Batman.
Negative plays a small roll in the deck but being able to negate a plot twist comes in handy. Huntress is here for that. Plus she has nice 7/7 stats so she can handle her own. She also has Concealed-Optional so you can decide to protect Barbara or one of the lower cost characters. Last Son of Krypton is a great card in case you deal with a "Stun target character with cost X". Superman has no cost, has solid stats Flight/Range so he'll be protecting a character.
Superman, Last Son of Krypton
Superman, Metropolis Marvel. I never played this card without getting some pump. While a 9/9 isn't too impressive, most decks should have more then 1 character in play so expect 10/10 or higher with this guy. I didn't want to focus on Superman or Batman soley because I want to protect my characters on a curve basis that's why I only have one. I may actually take him out.
D!ck Grayson is the ideal 5 drop for this deck. He has leader so put him in the center and use his effect. More draw effects is never a bad thing unless you're playing IG hand flood. This guy is a life saver. Cassandra Cain can get big. With the extra draw you'd get from Gordon and maybe Nightwing you shouldn't have a problem with a small hand throughout the game.
Brahma is a defense guy he is a built in Kandor to a lesser extent and is a servicable back up for the main 6 drop Batman, Cape and Cowl. This guy disrupts some decks. And he can negate a payment power. So we have another Batman for ongoing plot twist, Huntress for more negation.
Superman, Deterrent Force can prevent an attack...yeah what more can I say. If you took evens he should really come in handy.
Supergirl is our 8 drop but kind of by default. She has a good ability but why would an 8 drop be team attack? Pray she get's team attacked from the benefit as she'll definantly stun 2 characters is she is. As stated earlier I wanted to avoid having too many Batman and Superman on different cost because I want to protect my characters without the unique issue.
Plot Twist
The Hook-Up, Team Up
Flying Kick
Bat-Signal x2
Impervious x2
Soaring to New Heights x2
Flying High x2
Bat Got Your Tongue x2
The Hook-Up, Team Up x3
Crackshot x3
Acrobatic Dodge x4
Enemy of My Enemy x4
So by now we know I want to protect my lower cost characters, but Gotham Knights has a huge problem with flight and range, so I have to provide it to them. Hence the 3 copies of Crackshot. If played right with Gotham Central support row characters can get +4 ATK...who doesn't love that.
Notice defense is fairly heavy too. Impervious, Acrobatic Dodge and Flying High should keep your characters safe.
I don't any For the Man Who Has Everything yet so I went with 4 Emenys and 2 Bat-Signals for searches. As you can see plot twist does a little of everything, search attack and defense pump and negate.
Locations
City of Tomorrow, Team Up
Gotham Central x2
Kandor, City in a Bottle x2
There are only 5 locations and this is done because I didn't want to over do it on locations since uniqueness is a problem. The big flaw I see is that searching for locations may pose a bit of a problem. This is why I went with cards like Acrobatic Dodge. Anyway City of Tomorrow is a nice team up that will provide +1 DEF for protected characters, Gotham Central provides all characters in support row range and +1 ATK and Kandor makes it to where your opponent won't be attacking your weaker guys.
Final Decklist:
Characters: 30
Lois Lane, Star Reporter x2
Alfred Pennyworth, Faithful Friend x3
Krypto, Guard Dog of El x2
Kelex, Faithful Servant x3
Batman, World's Greatest Detective
Barbara Gordon <> Oracle, Hacker Elite x4

Superman, Last Son of Krypton x4
Superman, Metropolis Marvel
D!ck Grayson, Rough Justice
Cassandra Cain, Death's Daughter x2
Brahma, Supermen of America
Batman, Cape & Cowl x2
Superman, Deterrent Force x2
Kara Zor-El <> Supergirl, Claire Connors
Plot Twist: 25
Flying Kick

Impervious x2

The Hook-Up, Team Up x3
Crackshot x3

Enemy of My Enemy x4
Locations: 5
City of Tomorrow, Team Up
Gotham Central x2

Total: 60
Well there you have it. I hope you liked my little twist on World's Finest deck. After play testing it works well but not as smooth as the classic version of WF.
Note: How do I give my blogs a topic? I want this to appear in the deck strategy section

At first I wasn't going to do any blogging because I thought every person who blogged had some super-ultra-awesome deck that they felt needed to be posted when every deck I build is for fun. But as you said not every deck you made was perfect.
So here I am trying to share my decks. And I have alot of decks right now (about 10) so expect more strategy from mePosted 09-28-2009 at 09:58 AM by C. Ryan
