I was wondering where this was officially released? It's not on their site, so they must have dropped it in a magazine or something.

I have high hopes for this set, I think some of the old feeling of magic needs to come back, all the mysticism it used to have.

Wizards sent it directly to us.

what precisely defines a "classic" feel - isn't that nostalgic? it seems "classic" is a number of disconneted but flavorful cards, a myrad of creature types with little unity aside from "being okay in limited", and an ignorance of the color pie. Now, pardon if I'm wrong, but that sounds just like Time Spiral Block. If that's true, where are they going with it?
What "classic" may involve, however, is hailing back to a day when there's less setting and more "ooh, that's cool" factor. This, too, is not that good for the game. We've gone from multicolor (invasion) to graveyard (oddessy) to fat men and Tribes (onslaught) to artifacts (mirroden) to Legends (kamigawa) to more multicolor (ravnica) to nostalgia (time spiral). I think Urza's block was supposed to be about enchantments too, but it was really more about combos.
I hope they've defined it better, then. though i'd like to see a swarm of merfolk, kobolds, centaurs, ogres, djinn's, etc. rather than our stock Soldiers, Goblins, Horrors, Illusions, and Elves, I'm not sure they could devilver well on that. I do hope, however, that they play off of some of the time-shifted FUT cards like Steamflogger Boss, if anything.

Actually, as a theme, Time Spiral block was post-apocalyptic fantasy, Mirrodin block was sci-fi fantasy, Kamigawa block was japanese fantasy. I'm not quite sure why Ravnica wouldn't count as a classic fantasy setting, but maybe because it was about a giant city, it doesn't count.
A classic theme would play like a typical Dungeons and Dragons role playing game or like most fantasy literature, like Dragonlance or Lord of the Rings.

Ravnica was, I believe, a Gothic European fantasy. Just like Ice Age was Scandinavian fantasy, Mirage was African, and Urza block was from too many bong hits.
BTW... doesn't that expansion symbol look an awful lot like the leaf seen on the banner in Skyshroud Claim? A little bit at least.

Hi everyone, Im anxious for this block to come out, and to answer some of what you are wondering by "distinct classic fantasy feel" the set is going to to be more traditional fantasty, elves, gnomes, and merfolk :) I know this because I have a friend who got to see the upcoming artwork from one of the artists he knows. It seems to me that they are toning down some of the expanse of the cards and kinda bringing them back down to earth. More of the classic cards doesnt mean random cards that dont work well together. I think we can trust the team to come up with a sweet set! Im looking forward to it.
