Discuss Pokemon Mystery Dungeon - Red Rescue Team here!
Discuss Pokemon Mystery Dungeon - Blue Rescue Team here!
[Bullados Edit] Red and Blue are essentially the same game. It's more worthwhile to discuss them in a single topic than in multiple topics.[/Bullados Edit]
We have a Pokemon Video Game forum, Raybomb... :P Also, did two threads have to be made? They're both pretty much the same, minus some small things.

I'm going to be picking these up later today. Initial comments by about 10 tonight, full review possibly by the end of the weekend.

OK, initial thoughts...
Good lord, this game is *hard*! I've played about 2 hours already, and I've died twice! Failed miserably! My partner is so much stronger in battle than I am, it's almost scary. Also, he's completely inept on his own. He simply uses too much PP every time he battles. I've been trying to get more team members, but that is proving much more difficult than I could've hoped for. The friend places necessary to get team members are friggin expensive, and getting a team member is no easy task either. Heck, I'll probably end up as a Gold level Rescue Team before I finish the 5th story mission, this game is that incredibly tough. I spent an hour on the most recent mission, and failed it miserably. Of course, I didn't save it. Now, I'm stuck in an area between the proverbial rock and a hard place. I've got 2 other team members, and I'm supposed to have 5-6 at this point. I'm horribly underleveled for the area I'm going into, and to top it all off, I am doubly weak to *everything* in the place I need to pass.
Needless to say, I'm loving this game!!!

Well, I'm starting on the GBA version, no outside help whatsoever. Also, I'm finding the controls somewhat bulky and inefficient. I'm too used to the Start button for going into menus.
It took me three tries to beat Zappy with a level 14 team of Treecko, Mudkip, Pinsir (cuz I'm a glutton for punishment), and I used virtually all of my Gravelrocks in order to beat him, as well as most my Reviver Seeds. I'm probably going to be spending the next couple of game days getting myself anoter 10 or so Reviver Seeds so that I can take on Moltres. BTW, I'm now at the Xatu mission, collecting various diserving missions for use b/w story missions (or whenever my docier fills up, whichever comes first).
Oh, and CK, NO MORE DOUBLE POSTING!!! This is your FINAL WARNING!

I know this is kinda off topic, so I am apologizing in advance.
Anyone know the price for a DS Lite and the price for Pokemon Mystery Dungeon? Is Dungeon really worth getting?
I just checked on GameSpot's review on Dungeon, and they rated it a 5.3 outta 10, so I suppose that's not great. But since you guys have already played it, wanna share with me the juicy details?

DSL is about 130, but regular DS is about 110, depending on where you look. Used regular DS is probably your best option, as the darn things simply do not die.
Of course, you could always save the money and go with the GBA verison of the game. It's essentially the same game without the WiFi extras.
The game itself is very, very good, if not a little repetitive. Very challanging too. I died 4 times on my first 10 missions, losing a LOT of money and items that I'm still trying to recover.
The game is not perfect, but no game really is. It's quite easy to get overleveled at certain points during the game, and it's also quite easy to get yourself thrust into a dungeon that you have absolutely no business going into. About the 7th or 8th story missions are just like that. You are a Bronze rank Rescue Team, and you're thrust into four straight dungeons that are Silver rank or higher. There are also certian items that are VERY easy to run out of, and VERY difficult to obtain in sufficient quantity. I've spent at least 5 hours trying to get myself 10+ Reviver Seeds for the next dungeon that I've gotta tackle.
I love the game, though. It's quite different from the regular Pokemon games, but I'm fine with that. I'm actually kinda close to considering this game a "Not Pokemon" game, as the original premise has been done several times using several different franchises in Japan. This is just the first time the idea has been brought to the US. I'm having fun with this, and I want to finish this game completely...
Game reviewers always go too harsh on this game, I think. I picke dit up a few days ago and it is an enjoyable game, tedious and annoying at times, but still fun. I recommend you getting it, Blastoise.
As for a DS Lite, they're about 130 USD as Bull said. If you don't have a regular DS already than just spend the extra dollars for the Lite, but if you already have the regular then just stick with that one. I'm not planning on upgrading to a lite until my current DS breaks or something.
If you do plan on getting the lite plus the game than I would expect a 170$ pricetag with tax and stuff. Unless you find a bundle somewhere.

Again, if you don't have a DS of any sort, the GBA version is about 90% of the game at 50% of the total price (and about 20% if you already have the GBA to work with). It's worth a good look. I'm about 22 hours into the game, and I'm just hitting the final boss. That might have something to do with me being a prick about being prepared for everything (I've got something like 20 Reviver Seeds in reserve) and being thurough with my recording, though I've gotten somewhat lax once the C and B level stuff began appearing...

I went for the baddest and most expensive one... brand spankin' new DS Lite.
I told myself I deserved it - it sure put a hole in my bank account though.
I got Dungeon, Lost Magic and Advance War: DS to go along with it, and must I say that I enjoying every minute of it.
In terms of Dungeon, I have a Cyndaquil, and my partner is a Squirtle (what a surprise). I am around lv12ish, doing side quests here and there... too afraid to take on Zapdos just yet.

Lv 12 is enough to take Zappy. Just make sure that you have 5+ Reviver Seeds and 50+ Gravelrock. What you'd want to do is make Squirtle the leader of your team, and have him step back and toss Rocks from afar, unless he has Ice type attacks. In that case, just start smashing, and don't stop smashing. Magnemite is a VERY useful companion. How many Friend Areas have you opened up? I opened all of them that I could buy very early in the game, though I get the feeling that there are more than what you can buy available in the game. I beat Zappy with a lv 11 team of Mudkip, Treecko, Pinsir, so it can be done.

I finally took down Zapdos with two tries... I think I used 4 Reviver Seeds in the process. I set all my partners to their strongest moves, and selected "Go after the foes". I have a Scyther with Power Band and Quick Attack, and I linked Leer / Tackle with my Cyndaquil. That racked up a lot of damage.
I actually dont know how to make Squirtle the team leader, and you tell me how? (I started as Cyndaquil and chose Squirtle as partner)

When you hit "B", you'll see an option like "others". You change team leaders with that option. I'm not sure if you can control the new leader like you control, well, yourself, but it's an interesting little mechanic...

Started on the Sky Tower (or whatever it's called), but I've got a LOAD of schoolwork. Probably won't get to play until the earliest Friday...

can you start off as any pokemon in the game or is there a list of who it is that you can be? I would give the game a try if I can start off as either Heracross, Scyther, or Scizor.
No, there's only a certain amount. But ANY of the pokemon can join your team.
Bulbasaur,
Charmander,
Squirtle,
Pikachu,
Meowth,
Machop,
Psyduck,
Cubone,
Chikorita,
Cyndaquil,
Totodile,
Treecko,
Torchic,
Mudkip.
Perhaps I missed one... I think that's all though.

I'll might have to get this game and see for myself. Right after I completed Pokemon Pearl as I'm right behind trying to fill up the pokedex and deal with the difficulties trying to fill it.
So I see that this one is much more exciting since Pokemon Pearl & Diamond, am I correct?

I did not like either to be honest.
I am a hard core Pokemon fan, and loved the original format. The rest falls short.

I feel the same way. The original pokemon formula works very well. Everything else like (these 2 games) seem to fall on their face.

Agreed.
I dislike wasting energy on these, but, if it is good for business. ^.^

I would rather have them put their energy and money into releasing Platinum (and other normal pokemon games) faster.

Geez, for the TCG crowd, the time period b/w main game releases is too short anyway. We haven't even gotten all 500+ Pokemon on a card yet! I actually like some of the fillers. Ranger is an interesting application of the DS's capabilities, and Mystery Dungeon has some unique strategy concepts that I wish would be ported over to the main games. Not to mention the randomly generated dungeons.

Ranger was good IMO. Different, but something worth playing.
