I have taken TKD, JKD, TC, and have finally found a home with Ninjitsu

And I always wished no one would bring this up. I have begged, bribed and screamed the house down to be allowed to do martial arts, and STILL no success. Evil parents.

My dad has taught me a few things. He's a black belt in Judo,
and has also had experience with Karate (forget what belt he
got doing that.....but I think it might've been Brown). But I've
never gotten any real Martial Arts training of any kind (It'd be
cool if I could learn Ninjutsu - a friend I knew in 7th grade got
the chance to do that, and I've been jealous ever since.....).
And though it isn't a "martial" art, I do have experience with
"Battoujutsu" which I treasure despite it not lasting for long.
(for those of you unfamiliar with this, it is the mighty art of
fighting with a sword.....namely, a Katana; same name, but
it's not to be confused with the semi-magical version that's
spoken of in the Anime called "Rurouni Kenshin").

Fighting with a sword is a martial art. Why wont your parents let you do MA?

I've always wanted to learn Jeet Kune Do, but I've never gotten around to it. Oh well. I can still beat you up. If I'm given a gun.

Ya i stayed in Jeet Kune Do the longest because it is better than almost everything else. Ninjitsu is where I am now because it teaches how to cripple someone 1 shot. Kicking and takedowns very interesting. It is considered a forbidon art and you have to have taken 4 years of martial arts to do it. I take TKD for a few and JKD for a long time. Ninjitsu is just plain evil hehe.

My parents say that martial arts is too offensive... Of course, they totally disreguard the "only used for defense" part of martial arts. I think they don't want me beating my sister up every night.

Prof. Cinders, are you guy or girl? If you are a girl, TKD, karate, judo, are all good for self defense, and the real offensive, painful parts come when you get to black belt.

She's a lay-dee!!!
I don't know if I want to do karate now, becaause the boys from next door (who are little s***s) go there, and I don't want them sniggering at me because they're better than me. (One whispers to the other, they both giggle- it's like girls, but they're boys...!)

I took a couple years of TKD, but stopped after blue belt, perhaps 5 years ago. And I can still kick the arses of most of the people in Karate club at my school cuz I still punch hella fast. :D But, in a fight, I don't actually stick to the style I learned. I just improvise. It's more fun than trying to remember everything. ie. running up to the person, kicking they're shins, then flicking they're knee forward with the foot so they fall is more fun than doing a side kick from a fighting stance; and guiding a punch to the side, grabbing the arm, and throwing the person over me is more fun than blocking.

No, it's not that simple, because they're 11 and 9, and this is at police-calling level every time we insult eachother, and if I kick the crap out of them, I'm old enough to get arrested, and they're not... I might just get my sister to come and biatch-slap them!

It's not a matter of my folks letting me take MA, but a matter
of money. Since I've been unemployed for over a year now, it
really puts a damper on a lot of things I wish I could do.....

For years I had begged my parents to let me... but I don't really want to anymore because I fence, play the guitar, and play lacrosse. At this point in my life I'm pretty busy as is, though I've always been really interested in it .

I've had some training in a few differnent styles. I've actually even created a fighting style with my friend called Drunken Monkey. As you can tell it's a combination of Drunken and Monkey styles and it's really effective. I'm really looking into getting back into the Martial Arts....I'm so rusty now that it's even hard for me to do a simple spin kick.
Any suggestions on what style I should got after this time??

Me? I've never actually taken a course in the martial arts. I'm of the belief that any commonly available style of martial arts is too well known to be of serious value against any high level opponent, so I'm self taught. I borrow a lot from judo, but most of it's just textbook physics, and my own raw potential. I'm pretty impressive, but never can find a good sparring partner.

self taught hehe. Ya people have said that b4 and ya they don't do to well.

Eh, I've matched a few people. If you study the other styles for a while, you'll see that a lot of people in those courses end up as cookie cutters. Though they may have better luck against a standard fighter, it's fun to analyze their technique and rip them to shreds.
I just wish that I could get an easier transit out to some places where'd there be some serious martial artists. In WNY, the few black belts we have aren't even that impressive.

I used to take kung fu, and got to the green belt before my parents decided it cost too much to pay for me and my sister... I was almost in blue belt... I wasn't that far away from black belt either... three belts.
Anyway, have I ever used my martail arts skills? Once, when I almost broke this guy's arm in a fight. I punched him really hard in the shoulder, and pinned him... then I started pulling. :p Watch out, pervs, you might be next!

WHOAMG! PKS, you live in Western New york? I live there, and I am an impressive black belt.

Wow! So there is somebody of merit around! I live in the corner, near PA, so I don't see many fights/matches at all, barring rowdy farmers shoving each other around. What county you in? Cattaraugus (sp?) here. My best serious match has been with somebody into a few years of Tai Chi, so no, I haven't found anybody truly to spar with.
I know I couldn't match a blackbelt. I'm a bit below that status, most definately. If I was given a month to study up on that individual's style, maybe I could stalemate them, at best. All I really have going for me are crazy reflexes, a unique style, my wit, and a helluva backhand. My kicks aren't good, nor my straight arm. So yeah, I'd get trumped by any of the higher belts most likely. But I'd be decent enough to at least be respectable. As said before, I need to read up on a bloke's style before I can do something to them.
And, I apologize about my earlier post. I mean to say that one should take multiple courses if they are to take any at all. Otherwise, you become to easily exploited in a fight, not that it'd be easy to take on ANYBODY who takes a course.

well i whould take some if i could find a place thatt tought jeck condo (is that spelled right) it was the form of martial arts bruce lee invented out of several styles its formless and unpredictabul but powerful at the same time

Formless and unpredictable.. sounds a lot like my 'style.' Except I rely on speed rather than power.
I haven't actually sparred with my friend for quite a while... I feel rusty. *joints make bad creeky noise*

Me? I'm all about positioning and improvising. I'm saying ALL about it. My favorite tactic? The good ol' jump kick off the other person into a backwards roll. If I miss, just trip kick into a rising backhand. But, as I said, I'm all improv. I need to spar too. All I've done is a lot of shadow boxing recently. I'm a little leery of training with somebody else. (THANKS, AL!)
Lee: Okay, Kevin. Run at me, and shove me, full power.
Albatross/Kevin: Okay.
*does so twice, Lee practicing catching himself after a heavy blow*
*third time, grabs lee by the shirt, and piledrives him without warning.*
*Lee was sore for two weeks after that one.*

I'm not fancy enough to do the quick rolls and flips and all that good-looking stuff. But, punching is fun, and that's most of what I do. If the person is busy blocking, they can't do anything. Finish off with a very hard hit/poke to the right spot to disable the person's arm(s). The fanciest thing I can do is disable someone by poking them. It's fun...
//recreation of a spar//
*before the english teacher gets into room*
Friend; *punches me in the arm* C'mon Joe, let's spar.
Joe: *takes loose fighting stance* K, fine.
*Joe slacks arms then starts flailing at friend, making him laugh and fall to the ground, where Joe proceeds to beat him*
//recreation numero 2//
*friend takes fighting stance. Joe pokes friend in the arm, making him grab his arm and roll around in pain*
Yes, the majority of my spars were done right before english class, while waiting for the always tardy and disorganized teacher. :D

70-ish miles out from me. Who knows... Maybe someday, we shall cross paths. I'll have to step up my training a little, now that I know there's somebody interesting afoot. So, that's two skoolers us Ascencionites are in driving distance of. *waves at l00gs*

That's cool, I never would have guessed that people from a *desolate* place such as WNY would be here... but whatever.
I have actually started practicing all sorts of flips, and stuff. It is quite easy to do a frontflip, but backflipping I need work on.

I took a little bit of Hapkido...but then the teacher went to korea and only comes back here once every few years...so much for that.
I also took some Ju Jitsu, but me and my cousin were the only teenagers in the class and they couldn't handle our immaturity.
Tae Kwon Do, on the other hand, I have been taking for almost 9 years. I got my black belt almost 3 years ago, but I'm way too rusty to test for 2nd dan.
I wanna take ninjitsu so badly, but there is no school even remotely close to where I live. I would also like to take drunken boxing...but thats too rare also.

Prof Cinders should try tai chi -- it's more like an exercise program, but it's really a slowed-down martial arts (I guess you'd pick up the pace in an attack) :D
Also, Bruce Lee martial arts: Jeet kun do
I took tae kwan do for a little while, but we ran out of cash and that particular guy was a ripoff.... My brother took karate, but that was a diaster for everything but his self-esteem. Seems like the arrogant sensei didn't like being put through the mirrored wall after joking about my brother's weight...
I've always been partial to that weighted line thing that you whip out your long sleeves and whirl around until they're fast enough to take off heads :D
