View Full Version : Everyone has a shiny but me!

Wow, I just noticed that half the people I see on the internet have shinies... loads of em. I mean they play for like 10 hours, and a shiny appears. I have over 720 hours of play time, and NO SHINIES! That is really annoying, because I must have seen over 100,000 pokemon, and in theory I should have seen over 100 shinies, but I really have seen 0. Is that normal?

Shiny Pokémon are totally random, so if you have not seen one in all your time of playing, then you are just on a very bad streak of luck. If it makes you feel better, I have not seen any shinnies apart from the one shiny in game in Gold / Silver / Crystal.

Other then that, this topic has no conversation value what so ever.

I for got to say that the last sentence is in my opinion. Sorry about that.

lol! I'm glad Gibby cleared that up. :D

anyway, I think this does have conversation value. Sure the shinies are all random, but when you train, you've really gotta make sure you have the sound turned up and watch every pokemon come into battle. I was fighting a Sandshrew just the other day and noticed it had a wiird hue to it, but I figured that was only because my TV's color was a little wonky, so I beat it and went on to the next battle which was another sandshrew and that's when I noticed that it wasn't my TV, it was a shiny that I defeated! (a slightly greenish tinted sandshrew) and I was really annoyed that I didn't notice it before I KOed it. the best way to find a shiny (at least the way I found most of my shinies) is to train on the same route. Don't go from one route to the next and travel around while you train, I picked one route and kept leveling up my weaker pokemon (for example, I trained probably several pokemon on rte 113 which is how I found my shiny Spinda, and a trained a LOT of pokemon on Lv 120 which is where I found my Shiny Oddish)

Now, you're nto gonna get a shiny within the first ten minutes. I was training on these routes for days and weeks before I found my shinies. It's kinda hard to explain because I'm nto very good at explaining things, but when you're always fighting the same enemy over and over and over you're more liekly to run into a shiny version than if you're always fighting new and different enemeis. Again, nto within the first ten minutes, it'll be probably days or weeks or even months (my game is at something like 520+ hours and I've only found three shinies. One of them being a shiny mewtwo. I came across THAT one the same way. I used a gameshark code to make the only wild enemy I fight to be wild Mewtwos and since I was using them to train, and that's all I was fighting, eventually I came across a shiny mewtwo. )

So basicaly, you're more likely to run into a shiny version of acommon enemy then a rare one becuase you're coming across more of the common ones.

I caught a Shiny Altaria after 500+ hours of playing ruby and when I started over I found a Shiny Nincada after less than 10 hours so just keep slugging away eventually you're bound to find one. Stonewalls method sounds pretty darn good I might give it a go myself.

Meh, I've never seen anything shiny either, outside of the GS series. Then again, I haven't played that many hours of the newer games, but a couple hundred is still worth something, right?

Well, if this is a "make Groudon80 feel better" thread, I've never to my knowledge even seen a shiny while playing (I've seen the sprites of them on PokeFor). And I have over 500 hours across the 4 GBA games, most of that wild Pokemon battling rather than in-game trainer battling... I expect when I do eventually get one, it'll be a shiny Oddish or Zubat or some other completely aggravating Pokemon just to make me throw my GBA on the floor (again) :P.

Linkachu said in this thread (http://forum.tcgplayer.com/showthread.php?t=3465&page=1&pp=25&highlight=shiny) that the screen darkens and you see sparkles surrounding the shiny Pokemon when it first enters battle. I think that confirms that I've never actually seen one.

Anyway, (in an attempt to cheer up Stonewall), you don't want a greenish Sandshrew (http://pokefor.greenchu.de/zukan/gba/pokemon/sandshrew/). It's not ripe yet! Either that, or it's ill...

I must be one lucky honkey. Ive gotten a Shiny Magikarp, Gardevoir, and a Venomoth. That was all within like 80 hours of playing? I dont quite remember, i know that was very close. I also have gotten one more shiny but i cant remember it. I sold my game ^^

I have a shiny gyarados in silver version, but that doesn't count. I've never missed a shiny, never. I have fought many battles, and what really makes me furious is that my friend, who is a newbie, just got ruby version, and the in the first 10 minutes, of the game, he found a shiny zigzagoon! This was the first pokemon that he could catch, and he caught it. He refuses to trade it though. I have offered him any non-party member lvl.100 of his choice from my vast collection. I've even gone as far as offering 5 lvl.100s, but he still declines!

Wow... why does this really matter so much? Do you want to impress people with your amazing luck? Even if you do trade for one people could easily find otu that it's not yours by looking at the OT.

well in fairnes, Zak, it is pretty annoying not to have ANY shinies when so many other people have mutliple shinies.

If you say so. I still think it's kind of a weird thing to be proud of.

The only reason I want a shiny is for looks. I couldn't care less about anything else about it.

The only shinies I got: Gamesharked.

Never ever ever found a real shiny *doesnt consider Garidos in S/G a real shiny*

Any other methods of finding shinies???

I have been hoping for shinies like any new pokemon, I just expect to be a shiny, and then no, its not... such a letdown.

It really is one of those "right place at the right time" things...

I spent about 5 months trying to get a shiny rayquaza... then when i gave up i started a new game, the first thing I found after I got my Pokéballs was a shiny zigzagoon, then about a week later my brother made his own file on my ruby game, on his way up to battling May he found a Shiny Zigzagoon and a Shiny Poochyena, he never found any more after that...

Semi-Double post there... use edit button remember :)

I've found a few shinies through all my GBA games. My 1st ever shiny (not including Gyarados) was Rattata... I would have liked ANYTHING but that. I found that in my Gold version, I think. My next few shinies were in Ruby. Ive been playing Ruby for over 950 hours (yes, I have no life) and I found only 2 shinies: a Whismur and a Sandshrew. While i've been playing Leaf Green for 75 hours or so and found 2 shinies already: Rhyhorn and Pidgey. I caught them all but traded the Whismur for a Shiny Crobat cause Crobat is on of my favourites :p I want Shiny Raikou though, cause it's my favourite pokemon...

First off, it is spelled Houndour. And secondly, no, I do not have a shiny one. In fact, I have yet to find any shinnies at all. It seems I have bad luck when it comes to them. Oh well. I will continue with my track on finding at least one.

The last shiny I found was a shiny Numel. And I love it. The blue-y back and the darker yellow really rocks. And so does Black Camerupt.

Haha, are ya sure he didn't lie to ya? Cuz else ways, he has extreme luck! I caught a shiny Goldeen on my silver. I've also caught shiny Poochyena and Mewtwo (it took a month or 2 but I made it!). I also saw a shiny Nidoran female on my silver, but I had no Pokeballs, so I couldn't catch it! My friend has a shiny Entei, he wants me to catch a shiny Raiku. Man, that will be hard! XD

I actually was there when he saw the two shinies... i thought he was lying to me but it turned out he wasn't... damn him... So you know, you can only get raikou on fr/lg as shiny if you haven't seen it before... once you see it, the IVs are set and it won't go shiny... ever...

Besides Red Gary-dos, that's all I've ever gotten.

The chances of getting a shiny are 1/8120 (or something like that i know the 8 part is right) i have caught one shiny.. a whismur... i plan on breeding for shinies and i am also SRing to get a shiny rayquaza.. wish me luck..

oh.. i caught that shiny whismur within a few hours of game play on emerald version.. i almost KOed it but i noticed the green on its ears and though "that looks odd" so i caught it just to make sure i didnt miss out on a shiny.. i was extremely happy when i caught it.. but i will be happier when i get my shiny rayquaza (even though i wont consider it a legit shiny.. to me they are only legit if you get it on the first try, or searching in grass)

Why the HELL did you bump a thread that is 19 months (over a year and a half) old?! Please read the rules, you aren't allowed to bump threads that are older than a month.

I've played every game in the last 10 years but i've only gotten 1 shiny. it was in emerald and i wasnt training, looking, or even tryin 2 catch a pokemon. i was just on my way 2 a cave in the game (near the first town or something) and i ran into a shiny poochyena or however u spell it. i caught it and now its just in my box as a lvl43 mightyena. nothin special.

that's why, when i was shiny suicune hunting. i saved in the same area that it was in.( i had allready caught suicune in fire red and then traded it to leafgreen) and then i would search for an then after about 4 day i finally found the shiny version and caught it with a master ball. that's how you get moving pokemon shiny.

i was lucky. 120 hours into gold and i had a 2 shiny drowzee (spelling?) a weedle, nidoran male, and ditto. all were found in around in game at route 34, 35, and the bug catching contest. i didnt have to cheat for any of them either, that was the best file ever XD

Yeah in reality most of the people you see with more than one shiny pokemon cheat. Most people use pokeradar to get 40 pokemon streaks to highten the chance of finding a shiny. Look it up if you dont know about it.

So far I have caught a shiny Ratata(FR) & Tenticool(FR). Never seen any other than that.

What i think is crazy, Ive been playing pokemon from the yellow version up to the diamond one and yet to see any shinys, and thats gotta be atleast 500+ hours of gameplay over atleast 5 years.. It bums me out prettty bad.

Again, it requires more luck than anything. Heck, I've only come across three shinies in my lifetime (all in my Diamond game): Fearow (which I traded away to a friend), and two Lotads (one of which I raised to a crappy Ludicolo). I even tried the PokeRadar chaining and had no luck in finding shinies there, so again, it requires luck. XD
