The GS ball was the "hook" to get Ash and his friends to the Orange Islands for season 2 of the show. Prof Ivy claimed that no transporter would accept this mysterious gold and silver ball, so Proffessor Oak needed someone to go pick it up.
Later, Ash returns to Pallet Town to give the ball to Oak. Oak can't discover its mysteries, so he sends Ash to deliver the ball to Kurt to examine it. We haven't heard about it since. What was its original purpose and what is inside?
Although Pokemon Silver and Gold got their names from this ball, it is not in these games! Has Nintendo forgotten about it?

No, the g.s. ball held Celebi. If you ever played the japanese versions of gold/silver, you would already know that.

Yes, but in the anime, I guess they just left it up to fanfic writers, cause they sure as heck dropped it like a hot potato

No, the g.s. ball held Celebi. If you ever played the japanese versions of gold/silver, you would already know that. I've never played the Japaneese versions of gold/silver, so I don't already know that. O have also yet to finish my American version of Gold, so there might be one, but I already have 9 gym badges.
Actualy, if you've ever played the japanese games, you would know that the GS ball is what you put on the Ilex shrine to make Celebi appear, then you caught it. The ball itself did not contain Celebi.

They made a movie for Celebi, and they forgot about the GS ball, and when they realized, it was too late. The shelved the idea and hoped we would forget. But the new movie in Japan in 2010 (The Phantom Trainer) has Celebi and the three legendary dogs... maybe they'll use the GS ball then...

Isn't the Phantom Trainer also supposed to have new Poke'mon for the fifth gen making their first appearances?

Sweetness. I hope Kangaskhan, Pinsir, Tauros, Ditto, Aerodactyl, Qwilfish, Stantler, and Miltank either evolve or get a pre-evolution. I'm hoping more on the evolution side though...
