Possible glitch? (Not good)

My friend has Pokemon Sapphire Vresion, and the other day, his game restarted with the name Saph. Might be glitch, might be person. Please post if anyone else had this problem.

I've never heard a case of that happening... someone most likely started a new game...

That is what I'm suspecting, however I want it confirmed. There was a 5 year old around, so he might have done it by accident or on purpose. He denies it, though. More info:
