This is my recent Dark Magician Deck. Any criticism is appreciated. I didn't want to just look at other DM decks and copy. I know alot of the base cards will be the same since they all have the same goal. Thats no excuse for me to be lazy and just copy others though.

This flows well so far but I know theres always room for improvement. It should also be noted I've been out of the game for over a yr so I may not be up to speed on all the recent cards.

First off, only allowed 2 Apprentice Magician in Traditional and Advanced Format, so -1 Apprentice Magician

+1 Old Vindictive Magician
In case you run out of Magician of Faiths, and is good for field clearing


-1 Dark Magician
+1 Dark Magician of Chaos
3 is a bit overkill for this decktype. The usual ratio for most DM decks is 2 DM, 1 DMoC and 1 DMG. If you have no DMoC, then I would suggest using Magical Marionette, explained below.

-1 Dark Magician Girl
Overkill in my opinion. Only one is really needed, and sometimes people replace her with Magical Marionette instead of DMG because of the removal effect.
+1 Witch of the Black Forest
Come on, best searcher in Traditional Format. And she can be abused with Magical Dimension

-2 Gemini Elf
Plain monster that only serves as Beatdown. I like Kycoo more than this.
+2 Gravekeeper's Spy
Definately do this fix if you ad in DMoC. Can provide either two monsters to sacrifice for DMoC or DM and can serve as a decent wall w/ 2000 DEF or be Magical Dimension fodder.

-Mystic Box
+Sakuretsu Armor
Personal Preference, and the traps are a bit lacking in this deck
-Nightmare's Steel Cage
+Swords of Revealing Light
SoRL is way better than this card. You're still allowed to attack and it lasts for one more turn
-Mage Power
+Imperial Order
Let's face it, you need a few more traps, and this deck is lacking the best trap in the game. Played right, you an win because of this card, I've exprienced games where I could have dominated my opponent if I was just allowed to use my Spells' effects.

This deck is very solid, just a few minor things I find flawed.

Thanks for the suggestions. I will look into getting some of the cards you suggested. I maybe should have paid more attention to the banned/restricted list when I picked the game back up. I had no idea Apprentice Magician was restricted. I actually removed Witch of the Black Forest for the third AM. After I started back in the game I took my deck apart completely. I originally had all the "staples" of the time. I removed most of them. Imperial Order, Solemn Judgement, Raigeki to name a few. I can see that was not the best idea. I've been looking into DMoC. He's a little pricey but I have been debating whether or not to buy him. Thanks for your criticism it's much appreciated. Always eager to learn better ways to build my decks. ; )

I agree with PhnxSapphire's fixes, these are good suggestions.

You may also want to consider including: D.D. Warrior Lady, Tsukuyomi, Pot of Avarice and Magician's Circle. These are all good cards that work well in any Magician Deck.

Actually the problem with running DMoC in this kind of deck is if you use Dimension Magics effect to destroy a monster you miss his effect and you can indeed use 2 DMG's

My Dark Magician Deck Style has always been different.. In effect you'll actually wanna focus more on DMG with this kinda build to Special Summon those Dark Magicians (Another reason why you dont run DMoC) another thing you can do is just toss out painful choice and as the five cards use 3 dark magicians and 2 dark magician girls Very powerful. Fixes in the quote.

Ok, my updated deck is above. The cards I added are in bold beside the card they replaced. In summary, I removed Gemini Elf for 2 Vindictive Magicians, 1 Apprentice Magician for 1 Witch of the Black Forest, 2 Dark Magician Girls for 1 Magical Marionette and Tribe Infecting Virus. I replaced Lightning Vortex with Raigeki, Nightmares Steel Cage with SoRL, and Mage power /w Imperial Order.

I know no one suggested Tribe Infecting Virus. This was a personal decision due to all the theme decks I play against. I just hate that it ruined my 100 percent spellcaster line up. Any more tweaks, suggestions, or opinions from the rest of you guys would be great. You've all been a big help.
