Charmander, Totodile, and I really like all 3 Hoenn starters for different reasons though.
Cyndaquil... If i had the choice of all of them I would choose a cyndaquil... despite not liking typhlosion too much... Quillava rocks tho...

G1: Squirtle, cuz of Blastoise
G2: Totodile, cuz of Feraligatr
G3: Ralts, cuz of Gardevoir. I consider Ralts to essentially be a starter, as it's Wally's starter in the game, and it has stats comparable to most starters.

Kanto: Charmander: BEcause that's the first starter I ever chose on my very first pokemon (a Rom way back in 199whatever when Pokemon Yellow had just come out) so for sentimental reasons I really like Charmander!
Johto: I don't really like any of the starters, actually. Sorry, I can't pick one.
Hoenn: Treecko: Because he looks cooler as treecko than the otehr starters do as whet they are. Also, it was the very first pokemon I ever chose on ym very first legitimate pokemon game (Pokemon Saphire) so again, for sentimental reasons

Gen1: Bulbasaur, all to due the fact that it was my first Pokemon ever.
Gen2: Chikarita, but even if it is very cute I still find it on the plain side. I've never liked Cyndaquil much, and while I think Totodile is the best looking Johto starter I never grew attached to it for some reason.
Gen3: Treecko hands down.
And that's not bringing the anime or their other evolution stages into the mix. While those three may be my faves out of each gen, that does not hold true once you reach the final evolutions for each line. When counting the final stages it'd look like this: Charizard, Meganium, Swampert, with Blaziken a very close second. And for the heck of it, faves out of the second stages: Ivysaur, Quilava, Grovyle.

G1: Charmander seeing as I'm addicted to dragons that look intelligent and cute. I always go through trouble of Brock on R B & Y just for him. At least, until I got Mew (MEW! He's a-d-o-r-a-b-l-e, and has the potential to defeat any Pokemon)
G2:Cyndaquil--same reasons above, his second evolution is incredible, and no! I'm not a fire Pokemon fan. Just so happens that most cool Pokemon back then were fire type ('cept Mew! GO MEW! He's teh best!)
G3: Treeko. Yes I know, he is the most dinosaur/dragonish looking of the group, and I go crazy over Grovyle. He looks sooo cool. Then it becomes Sceptile *barfs* and go leaf-crazy.
All-Time Favorite: Mew. Mew. MEWMEW. Alright, enough said here. I could name his many great attributes all night, so....yeah...there you have it ^.^

G1: Bulbasaur - because it is sooo cute.
G2: Cyndaquil - because it is sooo cute.
G3: Mudkip - again, because it is cute.
So the pattern is, Rainbowstar513 likes cute Pokemon.

Kanto: Squirtle
When I first played this game, the first Pokémon I played with was Charmander. At that time, I never experienced that supposedly “hardships” with handling that Pokémon, for I always trained them to be way above the required level in order to do well. However, while it does have a really nice evolution, I was never fond of it for some reason.
The second time I went through the game I used Bulbasaur. By this time, I have read that he was the best Pokémon to use for it to be an easy start, but I found out that it was not one of my most favorites of all time. Not only in the looks of it but also how I seemed to handle it. Some of the attacks that he was able to use were nice, but I found many of them not to my liking.
So, with all that I have said thus far, Squirtle was the most fun for me to play with. The attacks that he learned all seemed to help build into a stronger Pokémon. I never felt like he was learning useless attacks. Each one built upon the last, making all the time I spent on him in training feel worth it all.
Johto: Chikarita
In these games, I started out with Chikorita. During my time playing with her, the game was fun and I liked the evolutions that she evolved into. While they were somewhat basic looking, they still felt in my opinion the best out of all the three starters. The attacks with her were not what I would assume to be the best, but they still did the job.
Cyndaquil was the second one that I played with. This Pokémon was actually a fun one to play with, but I never felt like he was growing. I felt like all the time I spent in training him to make him stronger was just worthless and tedious when it should not have been. His evolutions were really nice as well, but I still felt like they came at a time that were too long to get to, at least that was my feeling about it all.
Finally, Totodile was never one that I seemed to attach too. Either in the appearance department or the lack there of, I just never liked this Pokémon at all. During the time that I played with him, I felt frustrated and tired really. I guess this was starting to show my tiredness for this game.
Hoenn: Torchic
Out of all the tree Generations, this was the only one that I played once. I have yet to repeat it, beyond starting the other game once or twice to get a few Pokémon that were unavailable in the other games, so I have not experimented with the others started that much. While I have played with them some, I have not spent enough time with them to make a trustworthy judgment about them.
I personally like how Torchic looks. The cute look of her really was attractive to me, though I personally feel that both of her evolutions looked more Digimon-ish too me then Pokémon-ish.

squirtle and charmander
cyndaqil
and mudkip
the rest except bulba are weird
To be honest squirtleskidzz, how can any pokémon not look wierd, i mean, think about it, some share characteristics of real life creatures in this world, such as treecko being a gecko, squirtle a turtle etc, but so many pokémon are purely based to be imaginary animals from elements such as magnemite. Personally I find bulbasaur very wierd looking, but thats just me, i always hated how venusaur looked tbh. So many pokémon have appearances that put us off them, I personally hate Koffing and Weezing for how they look, but that is just my personal feelings, some may say Chimecho or Absol look strange, but personally I find them nice to look at... Looks can and often do stop us from training things in game, but do not underestimate a pokémon for how it looks....
=) oh and welcome to the boards, hope you stick around and appreciate being part of this community

With DPs release, this could be an interesting topic to have been revived... Although I do not promote its revival entirely, this could be interesting... as now we have 3 new starters to pick from.... Any thoughts on DP ones yet?

I want that penguin. Idk, it looks interesting, at least. Hopefully, it gets something better than Ice Beam and Sheer Cold as its Ice attacks...
