how do i put on a custom image for my avatar?

Click User CP in the top table, where it says User CP FAQ Members List etc. Then, on the next page, look at the table of options on the left running down the page. Find and click on Edit Avatar. Go to the bottom of the page it brings you to, and there is a box with options to either enter the URL of a picture, or to upload it from your computer. If you want to upload it, click Browse and choose the picture. Please note the file types that can be uploaded are limited, and that the size of the picture is also limited.

uhhh there are no places to enter a url on the edit avatar page

You have to have 100 posts before you can put on custom avatars
