Who here had ever seen the Dr.Phil show? personally I think Dr.Phil is a moron and a complete jerk.
What are your opinions?

I was going to say "brutally honest and "unafraid to tell you when your being an idiot" Which all they seem to send Dr. Phil is idiots. If you ask me, which you did, it's the guests who are the complete jerks and the morons. He just seems to be the only one unafraid to tell them that they are.

[SIZE=2]Your opinion is your opinion but you seen today's episode. It was about the Wives club. They are women that got married and divorced once. They came on his how for advise on how to get over there divorce. And after they all told there stories and after some questioning this is what he had to say and I quote” You might not like what I am about to say. Your are boring the **** out of me. Your not ready to handle life. Your nothing but a baby and pathetic" end quote. If that’s not a jerk then I don't know what is.

I like his bonk therapy, when he takes two family member who are at odds with each other, and rams their skulls together.

Didin't see the episode, but truth be told, we Americans complain about everything. We think every change to our lives deserves some kind of award and we often spend the better part of our lives living inside the most recent pain we experienced instead of moving on. It may have been specifically divorcees this time around, but really, most of us are like that.
Besides, what if they really ARE a bunch of babies and pathetic? I mean it IS possible isn't it? If thats the case, what good is beating around the bush going to do? The only way to move on is to confront the truth about yourself. Your not always going to like what the truth is.

Okay I can see your point. Maybe they really are babies and pathetic but shouldn't he of tried to help them get out of their postion. He is a doctor, right?

His style is kinda harsh, I'll admit. But, he does get results. Very few people will tell you what the problem really is. Most everyone will try to stroke your ego and work there way around to the point eventually, if ever. He sees the problem and directly adressess/assaults it. No beating around the bush. I guess one could go about it differently, but from what I've seen of his shows so far, the direct approach yeilds the most results.
Compare it to a leaky ship. Which would you rather have on your crew? The guy who points to the hole in the ship and says "Hey, there's a hole in the boat!" or the guy who asks you about your relationship with your mother, hoping that the conversation will lead to the hole in the ship eventually?

You defiantly can say he gets to the point, but he’s so harsh about it. There is ways to do it with out hurting your patient. Come on they were hurt enough.

Dr. Phil is cool as hell. Granted, his wife really sucks, but whenever he can manage to keep her out of the show it's awesome.
The thing is, most of the morons he has as guests really only need someone to stop holding their hand and be blunt with them. It's obvious you are single and unhappy cause you are a 300 lb slob. It's evident you are a 300 lb slob because you eat McDonalds and don't excercise. It's clear you live like this because you are a lazy worthless pos. Stop being a lazy worthless pos and your problems will disappear like Magic!
The Doc has a simple formula for success.
When I was unemployed I made sure to catch Dr. Phil and Springer whenever I didn't have anything going on that I had to do.

I'm pretty sure that was directed to the fictional archetypal guest on Dr. Phil's show. Not you. No need to get defensive.

Bonk Therapy is tech. I've been trying it with my kids and it works wonders. Usually they cry a little bit, but then they just want to sleep for eighteen hours.

lol. I for one would probably wouldn't let phil talk to me like that, i got a horrible temper, and if he tried that bonk therapy on me, i would bonk his head in the wall.

Well you probably wouldn't be a cantidate to appear as a guest on his show unless you are far more disfunctional than you appear. The people he does have as guests.... they need to be dealt with firmly and directly even if that means calling them out for being complete idiots.

Did someone actually just buy that he practices bonk therapy? I totally made that up! If he did, I'd love to watch that show.
And furthermore, I think he ought to, and have guests on that would bonk him back too. It'd be like Springer but with Dr. Phil as one of the gladiators.

The springer show is enough, I don't think we need another one like it.

Snake made a good point there, in that all his guests are people who have more then likely already had their hands held and thier egos stroked. He doesn't coddle, and that's part of what I like about the show. I don't sense any maliciousness on his part, nor have I ever gotten the impression that he's talking garbage just to boost ratings. In fact a lot of times some of the things he says looks like he could care less what the audience at home thinks and is more concerned about solving the matter at hand.
I think a lot of us are very much the opposite. I think when we see a problem with someone we love, rather then address it, we hint around for years and years with no solution on the horizon. I think we sometimes worry about what the rest of our family or friends are going to think, so we never confront the issues directly. And as a result the problems just fester.
Thats one of the things I like so much about the show, these people have had enough people telling them "it's okay". His guests are past the "your okay" stage and are now in the "are you insane? Look what your doing to your life" stage. Not exactly the clinical definitions to be sure, but you get my drift.
As overused an expression as "tough love" is, it really apllies here. I know a hack when I see one. I know when someone is just hurting people's feelings just becasue he enjoys causing them pain or because he feels superior. I don't see any hint of that in Dr. Phil's televised sessions. What I see is someone with a clear understanding of a persons problems and a clear direct approach for its solution. Honestly, you can't just be kindly reasoned with for every type of problem your ever going to have. Sometimes you going to need to be hit overthe head with it. And thats who they get for Dr. Phil's show. People who are long past that point where reason and tact have failed.

I never even watch the show, i just read alot of bad things about him that sound hilarious.
Ivory: I didn't say i agree with you, i just said i wouldn't let him do it to me, because i would kick his ***.
snake: Do you think me getting pissed off easily would be enough to get me on there? I want to get famous for kicking his ***, lol.

11-17-2005, 05:30 PM
Probably not, but you could always make something up to get you on. Maybe pretend to get really pissed at inopportune times. You should try that because we could get some good action on that fight, and it would be good for ratings. Who's placing bets?
My money is on the Doc, cause he's a big ol southern boy, and he's also probably had to go toe to toe with that evil wife of his a few times.

Of course, if Dr. Phil is as good as he's presented in be in his shows then I doubt you could fake your way on. ;)
Not to mention, I seriously doubt that a show like that didn't have some form of security and a contract that says "you cannot attack Dr. Phil." :)
To lighten the thread up a little bit, I saw him on Jay Leno a couple of nights ago and his son is marrying one of a set of Playboy Triplets. While she's not posing for Playboy anymore, Jay had a field day with that little bit of info. Dr. Phil didn't even flinch.
