What do people like or hate about Evangelion? Or what do you not get about it?

I hate the hype. Does that count? As I sit here and think about it I truly can't picture anything that stands out in the series' over any of my other liked animes... besides the fact that the end is messed as heck (FLCL is messed all the way through, though, so it beats it hands down).

That probably sounds harsh, but if you read my comments in the "Favourite Anime" topic you'd understand why. People tend to hail EVA as the "BEST" anime ever created, but how can a best exist with so many different genres? Does it have the best story; best characters; best art? Maybe in some people's eyes, but that's all subjective. To me there is no "best" anime, only favourites or personal bests. When people start spouting otherwise it ticks me off...

Now that I've gotten that out of the way, though... I found the storyline interesting (to the point that I dug up an FAQ for it), and I really enjoyed Misato's character. Asuka was also amusing but mainly because she was the typical "out of control" character (they get all the laughs). Rei... The concepts around her were cool, but her herself I found boring. Then there's Shinji, who I'm torn with... I don't really like or dislike him, but he did have his moments. Overall I think he was a pretty good character.

Most of the other characters were pretty enjoyabed, too, even the side character who's names I can't remember. The battles were done very nicely, and I liked the flow of the show... Both the final movie and final TV episodes are worth watching IMO. Many people don't like episodes 25 and 26 because they don't understand them, but after reading Revelation it makes a lot more sense. You could almost say they compliment the movie ending (a different view on how things happened).

I guess that's it. I'm probably forgetting stuff because I haven't watched it in over 6 months. Good series. Everyone should try to see it at least once but only if you have access to the entire thing. There are so many transitions from beginning to end that watching only half of it would be a waste.

It truly is a great series... One reason i think that it is a great series is all the mysteries surrounding and all the different concepts that were taken in to make it. It really is that dam interesting. Also, Everytime you watch it, you learn something new that you didn't realize the last time. I understand the series 100% or 99.99%, if i'm missing something.

Definetily a good series, it's number 1 on my favourite list! twisted stories, deep emotioned character, and perfect picture!!(especially in the renewal).
Anno seems to know how to make people thinks when he was crazy. You can see that from the characters: misato who hates his dad, but actually looking for him on the inside, asuka whose personality is shattered by her crazy mom and try to hate her feeling by pretending to be strong, gendou the twisted dad who wants to bring his wife back, shinji a sick mind who's scared of human contact but in fact don't wanna be alone, and of course Rei, the girl who ends it all who don't really understand humans and life.
All these character and real-life problems have brought evangelion to life, i guess that's what makes it good!!

I have a very important question:
i have all of the Evangelion original dvds, I have the Director's Cut version Dvds and I have the End of Evangelion dvd. Last Summer i started collected the Platinum version which so far i have up to volume 5. Volume 6 just came out and it brings 6 eps which are the Original and Director's cut versions of episodes 21-23. And vol. 7 is going to be basically the same thing just with the last three eps. Should i still buy them, just to finish the Platinum collection? I know it's a stupid question but I need help..

well i didnt want to say anything till i was sure, but yes the live action movie rumors are confirmed, tho production is on hold.
rumored to be potential writer (/director?) is Neil Gaiman
shinji is rumored to be played by harry potter - Daniel radcliff
peter jackson is rumored to have involvement
weta is doing design sketches as we speak
and the search for a director is on with rumored oscar winning potential.

No.., they just add some episodes about the characters (Rei..:) ) and basically it's just about their mental talks!!

Hmm.., i hope they make a good movie! Still, i think it's better off if they use Japanese!! That potter guy is no evangelion stuff!!

auska looks ugly and rei has black hair but other then that it looks pretty cool

Yeah!! I've seen those pictures!! It was the WORST thing i've seen in my life!!! Damn, I'm gonna kill that person that draw Rei like that!! And who the hell is those Unknown character(I forgot the name, the one that never show up in the original works!!)
