Do you think it's too hard to qualify for the Pro Tour? Is it a bad thing? Should Wizards be looking to change their PTQ system or do you think it's fine the way it is?

i think that if they made it easier they would have more people, and once you qualify either they'd have to split the prizes and stuff, and it would be unfair to the people who came in first/second. But maybe they could have 4 qualifiers and then top 2 get a bye or something, also i think they should stick w/ the pro tour philly payout

considering the PT is supposed to be the "best of the best" at a particular time i'd say it's fine the way it is. I just don't like that you don't end up playing a PT in the same format that the qualifiers are in. I could see them making it that the top 2 get invitations instead of just the winner...but other than that it's fine.

i agree... if you can fight through 2 rounds of single elimination after 8-9 grueling rounds of swiss you should be given an invitation.

It's generally too hard for those that WANT to Qual, but seemingless painless for those that are only interested in spliting with others in the finals.

We should have a "Reward System" that rewards multiple top 8 finishes as well, through some sort of point system for "additional invites".

In JSS's, they have the top 2 qualify for JSS nationals, and I think that would be fine for Pro Tours. Anymore is probably too many.

During the first 2 Seasons of PTQs... *ALL* PTQs were 2 slotters.... then WotC decided that it was too many invites each year, and cut nearly all the PTQs into single slotters...

I for oen think they shoudl extend teh invites to 1-2 instead of just first. Liek said after all those gruelign rounds, losing in the finals really sucks.

yeah ithink 2 qualifiers is way better, and also like their new idea to give out like plane tickets, that would definitly get a lot more people that qualified to attend, or more people to try to qualify

I think it would be really cool to see people who post mulitiple top 8s or some kind wild card invite get a invite.
The loose cannon kinda player always makes thing interesting.

Although I'm not privy to the specifics since I don't play I hear that Vs gives out invites like this. Basically you accumulate some kind of points (let's call them PTQ points) for making Top 8 (and probably more for finishing higher). This rewards consistency at PTQs. I have one friend who has like a dozen Top 8s but has never won the whole thing. I think he's getting pretty fed up with the whole thing, and a system to reward consistent players who keep missing out like this would be great.

Yeah in Vs. when you get 10 points you get a invite that was what i did b/c i never won it but i top 8 like 6 times and in magic it is hard but the pro tour is for the best of the best so it has to be kind of hard.

I personally think that the new format of one invite per Qualifier and a plane ticket is by far the best as of yet. Considering that 250 bucks was in no way shape or form sufficient for someone from say North Carolina to get to LA and back, let alone hotel, food, ect. The plane ticket also does something else that is also good for the format. Try to split a plane ticket between two people. There is a way for people who do consistently well in PTQ's and other tourney's. Ratings invites. A few years back there was a guy in a local store who qualified for PT New Orleans based solely on his rating. And this guy had never even played in any event larger than FNM, he was just that dominant. The same type of dominance on a PTQ stage would certainly boost your points rating on up there. Magic is not vs, do not try to make it vs. There is a plethora of reasons for Magic surviving as long as it has in a finnicky market. The originality, the flexibility, the ability of the game itself to evolve, and a tournament structure that rewards all players but only according to their skill level and performance history. If you hit 7 PTQs a season and top8 6 of them you do not deserve to be rewarded for persistency, you should instead look at the reasons you failed to win after coming so close six times and not having the nuts to come away with a blue envelope. I assure you that there are a few flaws in your game that just don't translate to Pro Tour level playing, but that is ok because it means you just need to work on it like the rest of us.
