I know I'm as much to blame as any one, but I'm Nem, so it's ok.

Right, we need some life in here.

First ten people to post get a special prize.

This place is discouraging me, some of you guys had better make a topic about the tour whilst we are away. its not long now.

Nem...Why do you scare me so much? Oh well, when Nem tells ya to post, you have to think about it. What do I win?

There's somethign you have to ask yourself, if you post just because I tell you too.

I coiuld make you do whatever I wanted, including posting randomly to win a non existant prize....

But I wouldn't do that

Or would I?

So, because Nem tells you there is no prize, you beleive him? Your lack of independence is disturbing.

Maybe it's all one mind game, to make you loose faith, to filter out the unworthy and unloyal?

As stated on MSN, I never said that I thought there was no prize.

*Looks over guides* I don;t see what's so dead about this place though.

Your mind games, fun as they may be to watch, are growing thin. If you had a decent bone in your body, you would go back in the RP where you belong and finally restart the NCM's.

Your mind games, fun as they may be to watch, are growing thin. If you had a decent bone in your body, you would go back in the RP where you belong and finally restart the NCM's.

I've spoken my peace.

Yes, I know I'm doubling posting, but I don't care right now.

How the HELL do you expect me to restart something like the NCMs when there's no one there to start them with? Eh? People join up, add somethign important to my sodding stories then piss off, leaving huge plot holes and problems wth my characters. Right now, Im half way through exams, trying to work, and planning the tour, and the parts of it we are doing for YOUR enjoyment.

I know no one is asking us to do the tour, but the stupid things we are going to do, and the DVD Alex is going to make will be for the benefit of you guys, not us.

I know I havn't been around much, but there's not really much time during the most important exams of my life, which will alter my future.

Sure, this topic isn't the most intelligent, but I'm having a laugh with it, and isn't that the point? I think this is the problem with this place, no fun more serious RP and chat. RP went seriously downhill since things got more serious.

I was planning on sorting out a prize for people, and my silly games were a way of having a bit of fun, but if you cant apprciate it, sod you.

I've argued my point well enough.

Misc is not dead. It's not active, or as active as it was, but are you forgetting that most people (or a good number of people here anyway) have exams? You said it yourself, you're halfway through them.

And it's better how it is with some life than bursting with SPAM activity.

Nem, you talk about the boards being dead, but what do you expect?

Nothing has been the same since the end of the Great RP war. Then we had topics that could easily get 20 posts in a single day. That all ended once there was the disagreement that led to the creation of D-Web. We've been declining since then, but those of use who have stayed loyal are still here.

I was here since then and have tried multiple times to get things going again and yes, people have flaked on me. It's all a matter on finding the loyal ones and keeping with them. And by the way, the last time that you started a topic in the ORP it was mostly stopped by the other people in the topic. Gary suddenly dissappered, exc.

I understand that you guys are busy and I am myself, but if you find something that you enjoy you stick with it. Things happen and people get over them. It's part of life, but I guess it's up to the person how they handle it.

Anyways...What was this topic about again??

RLRL
06-22-2005, 02:45 PM
The only real thriving topics on this board are the Hurt and Heal games...

I would like to think we would get more people signing up over the summer... but i wouldn't count on many more posts seeing as alot of people will have holidays etc...

I recall talk of prizes before, and then Gary decided that he deserved it most.

In other words, I argue that this is all crap. Fool us once, shame on... anyone but us, it's not our damn fault for trusting mods. Fool us twice... Damn, then you must think we're just stupid.

Yes, I have calmed down now ^_^

You're drunk now, aren't you? ;)

I complained about this place being dead a few months earlier but Gary calmed me down. Pokeschool's probably just going through one of those cycles every forum does. The PRP and ORP forums are a perfect example of that. Awhile back ORP was completely dead while PRP was fairly active - now the roles have switched. It happens. Just wait it out and things should get better... hopefully.

The boards have been dead for a while. At least on the boards we had up until 2005, there were still people. Now, these boards are both dead and abandoned. There used to be actually somewhat valuable topics, way back in like... 2002-03. I remember having arguments with Magmar over what was worthwhile and what was crap, in reference to my locking things. Now, the few scraps of the board that still continue are more crap than good. (No offense. It's nobody's fault.) Nowadays, there's almost no need for mods except for when we get a spam attack. All it takes is to get people back and for creative, worthwhile discussions to come to be.
Within the last year or two, so many people left the site. If any of you know any of them, try getting them back. As for topics, I know I like reading either interesting topics, possibly ones about your own life or possibly something that involves discussion (not arguing), not just random internet crap.

How about everyone makes a goal to start a new useful topic every week or so or otherwise contribute to an existing thread. These boards just remind me of boredom. If there'd be some enthusiasm, it wouldn't be dead.

Eh. Overall, nobody's to blame for this all happening, but I'm sure we could salvage what's left. :)

Salamence-trainer221
06-22-2005, 06:47 PM
Within the last year or two, so many people left the site.

I think I could consider myself one of those people.

If I can remember right I started to stop posting frequently about 6-7 months ago, shortly after the Big Brother competition. I was able to see some people's opinions of me, and most of them were: spammer, immature, and useless. Yeah....that sucked...I kind of agreed with it though. But anyways, that's one of the reasons I stopped.

And if you care at all, I do come to the forum multiple times a day to see what people have been posting, but you people made me feel like everything I posted was stupid and meanlingless. I don't know if that was true or not, but you did make me feel like I did.

I would love to come back and start contributing again, but it might take some time.

And one more thing: Is there really any point to the News Flash topic? It seems more like a Forum Games & Polls topic to me...

Yeah, I know this pretty much has absolutely nothing to do with the topic, but I think I have been needing to say this for quite some time.

Baboon
06-22-2005, 06:58 PM
Everyone's opinion of people changes. I'm sure some people here hate me, but I still stick around.

And yes, the News Flash topic really should be in the Forum Games area. It's just been in Misc. so long there's no point to moving it.

I also visit the boards daily but haven't been posting a whole lot, and I'd imagine many people are the same way. You've got nothing to lose by posting.

I joined 2 and 1/2 years ago. And somehow, I always see myself back on here, I don't know what drags me bac... it is definantly the ORP. The orp is my life of these boards, don't have that, I am gone... I know I am not the best at rp'ing, but I enjoy myself... but ever since my school un-blocked this site, it has been more active in the ORP. And btw, school is not in session, so I will be on about once a week again...

To this day I still think switching to the TCG was a crap idea.

What we lost:

-People. Look, we haven't had many new people here! Or if we have, they've all left along with the others. I have a friend named Hotaru who just doesn't show up like she used to anymore and I miss her. :(

-A lot of the spriters have lost interest. Pretty sure there used to be more sprites in that topic. No IMGs, people lost interest. As for me, I can't work without a mouse, but expect me to unplug my comp's mouse and make some goshdarn sprite for once.

-The ORP is practically dead. Some of this can be blamed for the fall of Hector and Yoshimitsu. (I mean, back in the old boards, they had their names plastered on, like, 50% of the RP. o_O) Some of this can also be blamed for the loss of people. And then we can shift the blame on writer's block. :p

-Forget practically, the PRP is dead! Look at it! No new posts in forever....*cringes* Anti lost interest in my RP so it sorta died....*hits ASG* No fair. Now I don't get my Wooper.

-Music, Movies, and Videogames used to get lots more posts. Maybe it's because of no time...? Oh well. On permission, Gary, I'd like to start an Album of the Month review section in the Music boards(you may see an example of my reviewing skills in the topic The Killers vs. The Bravery) to make it somewhat livelier. >.>

-And what happened to Misc.? Way back when, we actually had some discussion. Be it lists, apologies, or debates, there was always something to talk about. Now there's nothing. -.-;

-The Books & Writing forum is a barren wasteland except for a few little gems. We have my poems, In A Moment, just recently Welcome to Aurora, and the occasional short story either from me or Yoshimitsu. What happened? You'd think the RPers would be posting a lot there.

-The Forum Polls & Games forum seems to be doing well, but that's just because of Hurt & Heal, Stupid Question Stupid Answer, and Word Tennis. I think that section could actually use some polls , don't you think?

All in all, I think that's what happened to the forums, and it's a lot. Maybe this summer will see a change what with PBB4 if it's gonna happen this year....?

The forum really has been dying since we moved, I was talking to brad about it a few days ago, he said that basically once the forum moved he lost all interest in it really... it is a shame really, well okay alot of people will say losing brad ISN'T a shame, but at the same time he's not the only one...

Another reason we don't have as many topics in the Pokémon videogames section is mostly because we haven't had any "new" games come out in a while, seeing as Fr/Lg and emerald are reworked older games there isn't really as much to talk about gamewise as most people know how the games work etc...

I personally visit the forums about 3/4 times in a night on a normal day, mostly to see who is posting etc but overall there is very little life... ironically enough the topic about noone posting is recieving tonnes of posts... =p

Chedy says that he's trying to revitalize the boards. I suggest that ALL of you go and make up some flyers or something to have your local game shop hand out, and on all other forums you attend, advertise P-skool in your signatures. Sorry to say it, RPers, but our activity stems from Pokemon's popularity. We need to rally this site full force all the way through the release of the DS games.

Anybody leaving because of the switch is dense. We lost:
IMG Tags
Signature Banners
Status as an Independant Forum

Not too much. We've gained:
CUSTOM AVATARS (wanted by most since the pre-snitz days. This alone apologizes fairly well for the first two)
More Forums to Go to (Biggest boon. We can go and discuss any other TCG we want under this set of forums, and even have a new crowd we could bring in, if we were persuasive about it.)

I like the change. If only Macmar was still here...

We can now have discussions about the rest of the boards, as well as about important stuff. We can chuckle at the immaturity of a YGO moderator, we can sigh sadly at certain VS. threads. There is a lot more activity. We just need to realize that there are other forums to branch into.

PRP died with the passing of DJK's comp. He was the real driving factor. Not to mention that you can only do SO MANY power gaming posts. With the competitive nature brought in under stiffer rulings, we were limited out of the more creative plots. I suggest a temporary loosening of PRP rules, so we can try and get some action again. Also, continuing the tourney would be helpful.

I've got three fics in the oven, two RP plots that will change some of my characters majorly on the way, and one already up, an epic battle all RPers may partake of. ("Wave of Death" Seriously, if you RP, GO THERE. I will be glad to have a legion of characters swarming it. This has to be a huge topic.)

Stuff happens. People change. Their interests and priorities, especially.

I don't think it's possible to artificially "stir up" a board. Actually, I don't think it's possible to artificially get people interested in anything. I spent far too many years of my life doing stupid student union politics stuff, convincing myself that I was making A Difference to the 5000 students of the College - yet in retrospect, I realise that apart from the few times I went directly to the Dean with some proposal or other, it made no difference to anyone except the 50 or so people who were union hacks (= nerds).

Having said that, at the same time, I'm not sure the board is dead. It might seem quiet to people who check it several times a day, but it seems pretty busy to me, who only stops by a couple of times a week. What exactly are you expecting? You admit it's exam season in most countries, so all the student-age people are busy, and there's been very little "new" news in ages. Yes, Emerald is new in NorAm - but most of the geekish Pokemon players already knew everything that was in it courtesy of the Japanese version translated by Pokemon Forever and Serebii.

As for interests changing, I started playing The Sims 2 a week ago, and it's sucking all the free time I have. I'm not exactly surprised: the first Sims was my first major game addiction (excluding the MUD I used to play at college), and I spent basically a year of my life playing it when I was too ill to do anything else. I only stopped playing The Sims because I'd done everything with my sims that it was possible to do - I had all the expansion packs and several gigabytes of user creations, and the game ran like a snail on my poor old computer. That's when I got into console games - where you don't need to worry about upgrading your graphics card every 5 minutes just to be able to run the newest game ;).

So I've temporarily lost interest in Pokemon. I haven't really - I'm still watching the anime and playing with my plushies, but I'm not playing the games. I've had Emerald for a month and haven't even booted it up . So I've only been coming here in passing, just to say hi to people so you don't forget me :p. If someone asks a question that I can help with, I'll certainly answer. But I don't have the free time for casual chatter topics, because answering them is taking time away from the Sims! Must... play... Sims... :D

I'll be back. I always do this - go to places that I'm more interested in and leave places I'm not so interested in, and come back later on. I've even left livejournal a few times, despite my Pemanent Account and 1000+ posts. I always come back in the end :).

Bottom line: You can't MAKE people interested in Pokemon/Pokeschool. But what you can do is make Pokeschool attractive to people who are ALREADY interested.

Go to Pokecharms. That place is dead but has more potential. :p

I've seen Pokeschool through a number of these ebbs and flows but I have to say, this is the first time I've looked at the place and went "This place is more dead than flares."

There's very little left any more.

A year or two ago, if I had lost my net as I have now, i'd be annoyed at missing this place. Right now, the only thing I feel I'm missing is Pokecharms and Pokemon news.

Consider the Tour DVD to be the last hurrah for Pokeschool - I don't see this place being here next year.

I do have to say that just these few topics posted in the past few days are good. This is the kind of thing we need. Just continue this and all should be fine. :) Discussions are always good.

As long as we are still here and posting, we don't need everyone who left to come back. The issue here was that the people who are here don't take any action to post. lol. And the main site, although we lack material on the videogames, is not going to die, at least for as long as I'm here and running it.

You know, Gary, you really aren't helping with your whole "Go to my site! It's BETTERER!" bit. The last thing we need is a moderator sapping life off of the forums. I admit that Pokecharms is the better site, but must you, as a moderator of these forums, show such doubt? I'm afraid that now, in such a dark time, we must put on our Magmar2000 faces. When everybody becomes doom and gloom, that is when the populace starts to peel away. That is why Magmar 2000 was such an asset. Not the updates, or the authority, his constant sunniness and optimism, regardless of the problems. We must try to fill that role now, and somehow awaken the sleeping titan.

I agree, This is Pokeschool not Pokecharms and apart from a message in your signature it should be left at that (Mods lock topics with people advertising there own sites) No offence Gary but i think your out of line on this one.

And as for the forums dieing next year as long as there still here i will be as well, the people here are family as someone stated in another topic its not just a site you post in and forget about.

My apologies to the mods if My news flash topic is in the wrong forum, I posted it at the time because there was absolutly nothing alive in this part of the forum(and its not exactly a poll or a game).

Heck, even I agree with that and I basically live at the 'Charms forums. Pokecharms is my home, but Pokeschool has a community established Pokecharms has yet to see nor probably will for awhile. I'd be upset if something happened to either of 'em.
