Well here goes. This is my second report using the GearGarden build that is located in my signature. I think it is worth noting that the particular local I was at this time is a different one from the fist report and this is the one I frequent more often.
We had a TERRIBLE turnout this week. It was truly terrible, we ended with 7 people. This is hopefully just due to the holiday season and won't become a regular occurence. The field looked like this:
1 Amazoness
1 Scrap (My Friend)
1 Quickdraw Tuningware Invention
1 Frognarchs
1 Non frog Monarchs
1 Flamvell highly teched
1 GearGarden (me)
Kinda disapointed me because I was hoping to get some more mainstream meta testing but whatever. Since we had so few people (and two of them had to leave early so the tournament needed to rush) we decided to do two rounds of swiss and then use those results to seed a double elimination bracket.
Round 1: GearGarden vs. Amazoness
Game 1: He gets 1 monster and two Solidarity... I rip him apart with Tytannial, Lion, and AGGD
Game 2: We're pretty back and forth, I finally clear his monsters with a 2500 Botanical and a Decree locking his backfield. He has one card in hand, Gorz says hello and I can't recover -.-
Game 3: I draw nothing. 2 Tytannial, AGGD, Trunade and something else useless. I stall for a little while but am literally forced to revive a Spore and a glow up to try to sack for tytannial. He shows me bth and I just scoop.
0 - 1
Afterthoughts: I hate losing to Amazoness as I don't think the decktype is that good but I still lost. I might look into getting a list for it though, even though it seemed wildly inconsistant, it seemed like a lot of fun to play.
Round 2: GearGarden vs. Techy Flamvell
Game1: I'm riding him out with a Decree, active Geartown, Tytannial and one fluff token. He has one set monster and I just decide to push for game rather than play it safe as he's been known to rip Rekindling like a champ. I draw Garden, Trunade the field, Geartown ----> Set Garden ----> AGGD ----> Summon Debris ----> Black Rose ----> Second effect ----> 8200 Damage
Game 2: He rides me out with a Shooting star keeping me on my toes for most of the duel. Finally I draw a book, book his Shooting Star, Lonefire ---> tytannial and control the field from there with garden.
1 - 1
Afterthoughts: Was a fairly easy game but I always get nervous when playing Flamvells. I don't know why, but I'm happy to get this game over.
----------------------Bracketed Play---------------------------------------
Round 3 GearGarden vs..... *drumroll* Techy Flamvells again!
Remember how I don't like to play them? Well I lucked out and got to play again (this is also the deck that topdecked a Rekindling like a champ and sent me to 3rd place last week). I'm determined to just nut up here and play aggressive so he doesn't have the time to fill his grave and make a comeback.
Game 1: He stalls a little bit with a stardust but tytannial takes care of him and Botanical Lion takes it home.
Game 2: I honestly can't remember this one but I'm pretty sure he drew awful and I started with 3 Debris Dragons and just kept pressure while sitting on nukes and a book (for shooting star) if I had to. Easy win.
2 - 1
Afterthoughts: much easier wins than earlier and surprisingly a lot worse than last week when he debuted the deck. Feeling good at this point.
Round 4 (still in winners bracket) - GearGarden vs. Tuningware Dandywarrior
This guy usually plays Herald so it's a pleasant surprise to see something else.
Game 1: Econ works wonders! He trys to go summon Junk Synchron, I econ him for big damage. He has something like Dandy Tuningware and Junk Synchron on the field but I really have no monsters but debris and a set ryko so I pop the dandy with ryko and go for the nuke, stall with a Book of Moon a turn and then double tribute for tytannial. Later he goes Summon Synchron Explorer, revive quickdraw, I econ the Quickdraw and he passes with both in attack mode. He has 5200 left and I have 5200 on the field with tytannial and black rose. I do as much as I can, he looks at his topdeck and scoops.
Game 2: I don't remember much about this game except how epic the end was and how econ was a champ again. Basically it comes down to this: I have a face up Dandylion attack mode, two fluff tokens, a Black Garden token, Black Garden, and a book of mooned debris. He has 3 face downs and a formula synchron in defense and 3200 lp. I have like 5 cards left in the deck and if it went to deck outs would certainly lose. Hand is only econ. Draw into trunade. Trunade, econ a Black Garden token for his formula synchron, flip debris and tune with dandy/a token for stardust, go into shooting star and attack for game.
3 - 1
Afterthoughts: Wow I'm glad I main 3 econ. It's shone before but never quite like this. The opponent was a good player and though it wasn't his usual deck was still a difficult opponent. Anyways, now on to the finals of the winners bracket.
Round 5: GearGarden vs. Frognarchs
I knew I'd be facing this guy. By far the best duelist at our locals, but he usually runs Volcanic QuickDraw. He drives with the player from last round, seems like they both decided to change things up this week. I know I'm in for an interesting match. Or at least I thought so.
Game 1: He wrecks me. Treeborn gets dumped first turn and monarch after monarch disects me. I can't do anything.
Game 2 and 3: I'm going to lump these together because they're so similar. I start both duels with Card Trooper and he draws really nothing playable but fishborgs and Card Trooper/gravirose take him down really quickly in two and trooper and RDA take it the third duel.
4 - 1
Usually if we have to go to brackets on a small turnout we do playbacks just to get more duels in. Meaning the winners of the losers bracket would play the guy who lost in the finals of the winners bracket and that winner plays the winner of the winners bracket again for first. However the losers bracket would have looked something like this:
Scraps vs. Tuningware Guy
Winner from above vs. Frognarchs
Winner vs. Me
Since the Frognarch guy had to leave to go to work, and the Tuningware guy rode with him it would have to be the scraps guy vs me.
Since the scraps player was my friend (whom I payed for to come today) and he would have to rely on two scoops to get to play me he decides to give me the win and take second.
I pull a super compulsory from my turbo packs. Goes straight to Ebay :P
Props:
Winning
My friends scraps getting 2nd
20 dollar pull :)
Revenge on Flamvells
Econ being pro
Slops:
Not feeling like I got a 'true' win since most people didn't show up
Not many true meta decks to playtest with
Having to play in brackets
As I said, deck is in signature.
Thanks for reading. :)
