Because I love acting. And because I'm doing two shows at the moment. I know there was a topic like this some time ago, back on the old 'School boards, but there aren't any here I don't think, at least not according to the search, so... meh. I remember quite a few people had acted in plays... tell us about it? Did you stuff up like your most important line? Do you even like acting? Stupid times, funny times, embarrassing times? xD I wanna know (and in some cases, so I can laugh at you :P)... What plays have you done?

I've done...

Romeo and Juliet, *twice* -.-; as Benvolio and then the Prince
Oedipus Rex, as Creon
Julius Caesar, as Brutus (I so have it in for the wise guys don't I? -.-;)
Trial By Jury (musical, as part of a group of jurors)
3 other plays the names of which I have no idea - they were crap anyway, but the characters were Squirt, Mortimer 5, and summat or other beginning with B. -.-;
The Canterbury Tales, as Harry
The Government Inspector, as the Postmaster Ivan Kusmich Schpekin
Boy, as, well, Boy
The School for Scandal, as Joseph Surface [current]
The Illusion, as Calisto/Clindor/Theogenes [current]

That's all I can remember off the top off my head... Doing this many means I get confused when thinking of plays I did previously... especially while I'm trying to learn lines for my current one(s).

I find learning lines one of the easiest things about acting, funnily enough... Get me to read a scene twice and block it (act it out) once and I'll have it memorised. I remember things by reading them, so I find it really easy. I've been told I'm quite in detailed my preparation and analysis of characters and the play... It's true that I like to do a lot of preparation... character, history, notes, and then I analyse each of my scenes specifically with what actors normally do - objective, action, obstacles, etc. It's funny, I even like doing all this typing to do with acting...

One of the best things I like is just being in an empty theatre, on stage alone in the middle of the empty space.. I just find it so amazing; and then you pull in the crowds, and the atmosphere is always so intense; I guess that's in part why I love acting too.

In one of the aforementioned yet nameless plays I did... I had to sing (and I have a crap voice), and after that, I've never found acting in front of large audiences intimidating... I actually love large crowds... I've had audiences ranging from... I think it was like 19 a few years back, to over 1100, and that was so bloody AWESOME!!! haha...

It's a pity my school doesn't have any particularly good theatres... two of them are for speeches and lectures mostly and the third for musical concerts, so the acoustics weren't as good as some of the better auditoriums I've been to. Still, it's acting, and it's hell fun, so meh.

Most embarrassing moment, currently that'd be two moments, firstly dancing (or rather, attempting to dance), when I was like 9, and secondly the thing i mentioned before about singing... god. -.-; That said, that might have to change soon... one of my current plays, The Illusion... It's an adaptation by Tony Kushner of a french play, L'Illusion Comique, by Pierre Corneille... in one of my scenes I have to kiss a girl... it's not so much I mind actually kissing her (she's not half bad looking truth be told :), that I don't mind at all (:P), it's doing it in front of my friends and parents, who will of course be there... and then I have some rather, err, 'strategically placed', shall we say, groping (of girls, obviously), and yeah that's hell embarrassing just doing it in an empty auditorium. Butt pinching isn't exactly my style :x

I don't think I've ever truly forgotten a line.. one play was pretty embarrassing cuz we missed an entire scene (one guy missed his entrance, and we ended up doing the scenes in a mix and match order...). Can't think of anything stupid... Although there have been some funny moments at rehearsals, just not (that I can think of) during the actual plays... but I'll get back to you. It's almost 11 and I gotta get some sleep, I've go rehearsal tomorrow... and the day after... and the day after that... and after that...

*snore*

So, how's that for a rant? Oh well, post your experiences peoplez!

Whoa... after being struck upside the head by the sheer size of the above post, I am loath to answer since my reply will seem so disgustingly tiny. But yeah, I'm one of them theater buffs. I'm in a Shakespeare troupe that gets together over the summer, so the works of the Bard constitute a large part of my drama diet. Lesee... Nym and the sole Chorus narrator in Henry V, Ferdinand in The Tempest, Banquo/Young Siward/THE PORTER in Macbeth (come to think of it, Macbeth too, but that was in a different production with a different bunch of people), and so on and so forth. Then there are your non-Shakespeare plays I've been in -- I've most recently starred as a perverted, chauvinistic boss in "Just Be Frank" and an abusive, pyromaniacal husband in "27 Wagons Full o' Cotton". Yep, that's teh Pohatu for you.

I haven't really done many big name shows, but I've had a decent amount of theater experence for a High schooler in the US.

I've been in:

Of Mice and Men as Lenny (My favorite role to play ever!! I got so into the character.)

Bang Bang You're Dead as Michael (This was a play about school shootings and was really fun)

Mrs. California as Glen (About a compition between housewives)

Of Widows and Vegetibles as Doctor (A play with alot of sexual things in it, and I also played like 5 parts before the final proformance.)

Radio TBS as Pauline Felts (Yes...I played in drag on this one. I still can't live it down.)

Well, that's about it. The only ones that I'll never forget are Of Mice and Men and Bang Bang You're Dead. Both were so dramatic and fun to proform in. I got to play a lead in each and I loved each one. They've both become part of my life.

They made a play out of Of Mice and Men? That's an awesome book, pretty sad though. Especially how Carson ( i think it's him ) at the end of the book doesn't even get why the other guys are so down... Bang Bang You're Dead i've heard of from somewhere, but I don't know where, and not the play, but the actual words... Oh wait, in a poem, Weapons Training by summat or other, but it ends with "But you know what you are? You're dead dead dead." I guess it just reminds me of that. What's the play about?

A Shakespeare troupe? That's awesome! I SO wouldn't mind doing that every summer... Eh, you said the Scottish play... I've never like the scottish play myself. Maybe it's just actor's paranoia, but still... (for those who aren't actors, saying the name of the Scottish play in a theatre in particular is believed to be bad luck by actors...) And as for the post size, I was kinda hyper... had too much coffee. Kinda strange really; I almost never have coffee...

Now... some funny things that have happened...

oh... omg... this was so embarrassing... In a rehearsal a few days ago in The Illusion (where i play Calisto/Clindor/Theogenes), in one scene, I as Clindor step behind Isabelle's maid Lyse, touch her arm, move my arm down to her hips, then up to just touching her breast from underneath... except the costume... argh it's like really thick like those old dresses women wore in like britain and stuff where there are lots of frills and materials used, and lots of folds and stuff... and my arm got caught there for a minute, like maybe it was just me and that i did something wrong but i so swear that my arm was stuck and omg i was like 'do i risk ripping the dress to pull my hand away' god that was SOOOOO embarrassing... THANK GOD it wasn't the actual performance... except now i've like got this fear of that happening in the actual performance... crikey...

In The Government Inspector... for some weird reason the guy playing Dr. Hubner accidentally got my costume instead of his... o.O and the director was like "stop fooling around" and he was like "...huh? what i do now? ...oops..." rofl...

There was this really dodgy chair in another play, the (second, i think) time i did Romeo and Juliet... Well you know how like a lotta chairs have a frame, and then they have the cushion sitting on that? something weird happened and while a guy was sitting on the chair the cushion fell through the frama and he ended up stuck in the frame of the chair and we literally had to resort to removing some of the bolts in the chair to take apart the framework and get him out... he left with a really really really sore back...

xD. Another rant. *snore*

To start off with Bang Bang You're dead, the plays about school shootings. One of the main characters, Josh, kills five kids from his school. It's basically about retelling what happened that day and what made Jos become obsessed with guns. Then at the end the thing that stands out most for me is this line...

"And you'll see us everyday how you saw us this morning. DEAD, DEAD, DEAD, DEAD, DEAD!" On each of the deads one of the five that he killed falls and we're left laying on the ground dead and then it's over.

It's a pretty potent play.

I've been in four plays, but most of them are pretty obscure.

The Hillbilly Christmas Carol: Cora Belle
A Midsummer Night's Dream: Peaceblossom (Five whole lines. Wow.)
Ducktails & Bobbysox: Wilbur (They changed my name to Wilma and made me a lesbo, thank God.)
Some summer play: Sarah (I don't even remember the exact role.)

I'm planning on being in more, because I can do thngs on stage that no one would think I could in real life.

- As You Like It (William)
- A Vacant Lot [written by my acting professor] (Passerby #1)
- Hamlet [massively shortened version] (Francisco)
- Comedy of Errors (Angelo)
- Midsummer Night's Dream (Peter Quince)

Yeah...great for you guys but i just hate acting and roleplays! We have class presentations such as Hamlet (I'm Polonius) and a Disney show, in which in this case we chose to play Anastasia. (We were practicing it yet and we haven't assigned the roles but I hope I won't be Rasputin!!!)

Yeah, I guess I'll squeeze in a happy birthday wish from me, too. Happy Birthday! 15, right?

As for acting, I have been in school plays, but I really want to get into bigger, better ones. I want to take off in a drama club, since I have incredible potential for acting. Nobody seems to realize how much I want to act! It's not fair! >.< Maybe the drama club in high school will help me?

Seriously, I want to do this kind of thing. I have always been a kind of literature person, doing all the arts and such. Except for... drawing.
