Lavamancer's Guile :r::r:
Enchantment
Targets for spells and abilities you play are chosen as those spells and abilities resolve. Legal targets are still required.
Strike while the iron's hot.

Holy crap. That's awesome.
Very original and game-changing while not being broken.

I do like the formatting; a very clean rules break.
Hard to say that anyone would play this at 3cc though, since it does nothing on its own. It needs to be made more efficient somehow.

Would adding "Red sorceries may be played as though they were instants" make it better? I think that fits the theme rather well.

No. That might be a bit over the top.
Maybe making it cantrip instead.

Thanks for the suggestion. Any better now?

Yeah, that'd work. That's a very interesting card and the cantrip makes up for the fact that it doesn't do anything on its own. As to its overall power, it makes the burns into a bluff and pretty much screws around damage prevention and possibly counters.

Soo... essientally... targeted spells you control, can't be countered. Hmm... with red, i don't think thats a problem, and isn't too overpowered. The cantrip really completes it... otherwise... i could possibly suggest color coding the the ability... but the RR casting cost takes care of that

There's a problem here. I just know it. My Judge's Spidey Sense is tingling.

Because it could be countered for a lack of legal target? I dunno.

They still can be countered, just you do not have to declare counters.
Neat idea, maybe it could be costed at :r: without cantrip, making it card disadvantage, but less tempo-consuming...

It makes it difficult to protect your creatures, which is really white's forte, so it makes sense this is red. You play a Shock. Now your opponent has to pay for the Circle of Protection, in case the Shock's coming their way, as well as maybe protecting one of their creatures with a Healing Salve, but leaving the others to the Shock. It disables quite a bit of protection - exactly like a red card should do.

Do you really think it could get away with a CC of :r: without the cantrip? I think I'd like it better that way.

well id say u can put it to RR w/o cantrip

Mine went off too, but this is actually elegantly worded, and while it has the potential to get ugly, I can't see anything that actually makes it so.

I can see now... So basicly I play a burn spell look evil and ask him what creature would you like to save in response...
and smack it in his face anyway :D

jesus
ive been designing cards for ages now and i never ever thought of this
its so simple yet it raises so many questions
remove the cantrip because it screws with this cards elegancy
good job

Well, to be honest, it's not the *most* original card. There was a CotW nom a while back that was:
Bolt of Lightning, or something - 1R
Instant
~ deals 2 damage to a creature or player of your choice.
Something like that.

Changed the CC to :r::r: without the cantrip. Thanks for the compliments, all. :)

Personally I'd prefer to pay :1: more for the cantrip, but that might be just me.

I find this a fun card. Red should really do more wierd effects like the one showcased here.
Congrats for the nomination and the (imminent) win.

This may sound as a noobish question, but what exactly is a cantrip?

A card, uslual one or two that draws you a card in adition to it's affect.
A few examples Abeyance (http://magic.tcgplayer.com/db/search_result_card.asp?id=5969) Leap (http://magic.tcgplayer.com/db/search_result_card.asp?id=5367) Squelch (http://magic.tcgplayer.com/db/search_result_card.asp?id=12184)

Cantrip is magic slang for "draw a card".
