Hey everyone.

I'm fairly new to magic so I'm confused with trample's and death touch's abilities combined. If I attack with a 4/4 creature with trample equipped with gorgon flail and my friend blocks with a 2/2 creature. Do I still need to deal 2 damage to his creature or do I only need to deal 1 to the creature and deal the rest to him? I've been dealing enough damage equal to the other creature's toughness so I'm not sure if I can get away with using 1 damage or keep dealing 2 to his creature and the rest to him.

Could some one please help me?

Since the defending critter has a toughness of 2, you have to assign 2 damage to it before the rest of the damage "tramples" over and hits your opponent. The defending creature dies to lethal damage anyway, so deathtouch doesn't matter.

Ok. I thought so. I was just confused because you could kill one creature with just one point of damage.Thanks.

Well, with deathtouch, you can. Say a 10/10 critter attacks and you block it with a 1/1 guy with deathtouch. Both critters die, the 1/1 due to lethal damage, the 10/10 due to deathtouch.

You will annihlate that creature with your attack and deathtouch. So you still do 2 damage to the creature and 2 to the defending player. If he didn't have another creature to block it that is.
