District 9

I heard about this movie and a few friends said it was good so I decided to see it on my birthday.

IMO it was a really good movie with great acting and a great story.

My dad didn't like the beginning commentary part of it but I liked it and thought the movie in general was good.

Any thoughts?

I, too, like the movie as well.

It had some pretty neat special effects and CG was darn amazing. It's kind of hard imagining an alien as a victim, while (some of) the humans were the villains, in a sense. But the director and the writers did a great job at it.:)

Yea I just wished that they explained at least a little bit how the aliens and humans could talk to each other. That bugged me for a while.

I was not a fan, it was plot lacking, just a lot of stuff blowing up.

There could have been more plot yes, but the storyline it did have was captivating enough to keep my watching with intent.

ye the plot did seem kid of weak, but thats ok, it was good enough (like travis said) to keep me watching. the CGI was fantastic. the explosions made me laugh, cuz i was pretty baked when i saw it the 1st time. then the 2nd time i watched it sober and i was like holy crap this movie is sweet.

i think somebody said they are making another part called district 10 or something (cuz thats where the alies were getting moved to) and christopher is supposed to come back to give the guy the antidote or the aliens will begin a war with the humans for their oppression and their inhumane experiments

Yea a great cliffhanger at the end because it shows the guys wife after she got the flower from the front doorstep and she doesn't know who it is from but she hopes that it was from her husband.

And after that you see a prawn making a flower from garbage......

And I think District 10 will be awesome because Christopher will come back, turn the guy(can't remember his name) back into a human and take all of his alien friends back to their home planet.

yea, but maybe the humans will fight to keep the ships away from the planet. i hope there is another one

The director said if the first one was a big enough success(which it was) he would make another one. But I don't think Chris would come pick his alien friends up and then try and take over the planet, that would be stupid. They should have it so that Chris comes back, turns the guy back into a guy and then he gets reunited with his wife in peace. But then something goes wrong(which it always does) but it can't have anything to do with just Johannesburg anymore, it should include the world....

just a rumor but i heard this movie was thought up when they scraped the original halo movie.
plus i didn't like the ending at all........what they should have down since they fast forded was show an entire prawn fleet in the sky decending to earth

That would have led to a lot of questions which could have been good or really bad, because if they portrayed something that some people would love and others would hate, they would lose half their fan base and thus not have enough money or incentive to make another film.

I loved the movie. I can't wait until the next one comes out. Honestly I love the fact that it's not like most other scifi movies and that it actually had a deeper message.

Well throughout the movie the main guy is a good person it's just when he gets turned into the alien he gets depicted as a runaway and a bad person.

And at the end when he's in the suit and grabs the missile that would have shot Christopher down when he was trying to board the mothership was awesome.

yea that was pretty sweet. i like when the mercenary general tries to shoot the main guy, but all the aliens come out and pull his head apart like a watermelon.

the CGI was amazing in this movie

This movie was awesome, I saw it twice.

In District 10, the prawns will return, sure, and they won't be happy. Remember the prawns in the movies were workers, their leaders having deserted them for some reason.

A thought: since humans can turn into prawns, it may be that the prawn culture looks just like us, or at least humanoid. I get the feeling that the physically superior prawns are ideal for space travel, given that space has incredible amounts of radiation in the form of cosmic rays, which we're protected by on our planet by our strong magnetic field know as the Van Allen belt.
