Have you ever lost a Pokemon?

My Swampert is missing. He's not in Ruby. He's not in Fire Red. He's not in Box (I used the search function to make sure). He doesn't seem to be in any of the daycares. He might be in Sapphire, but I can't think how he'd have got there 'cos I haven't played Sapphire in ages. There's a possibility he might be in Colosseum, but I have the US version and a European GameCube, which means that booting up Colosseum involves faffing about with the FreeLoader disc and hoping it actually works... and again, I can't think how he'd have got there. I'm sure last time I saw him was in Fire Red a couple of weeks ago. But he's not there now.

Argh! Argh argh argh! I need to find him:
a) for breeding purposes
and
b) because he was my first Pokemon EVER, and I'm kinda sentimentally attached to him (as I am to all the pkmn I've actually spent time training)

I wouldn't have released him by accident (I've only ever released about 10 Pokemon, all from Colosseum, and only to try to reduce the size of my Oddish Mountain). So he's got to be about somewhere. But where?!

Argh!

Good heavens, yes! My brother and I would trade over to every cartridge we had, plus Stadium -- so some of my pokemon are still lying in Stadium limbo even though I just had to sell back every gameboy-related thing I have for extra money (sorry, my wonderful, sweet team!)

even though you don't know how it could have gotten there you shoudl definitely look in Colosseum and Saphire. I know you say you have no idea how it would get there, but things can happen. I have come across several pokemon I though I released that were simply placed in an unused box in a game I didn't play very often, so check everywhere, even in places you're SURE it wouldn't be. And remember, Fire Red/Leaf green ahs TWO daycares, not just one (one where it only takes a single pokemon, and the other on an island that takes two, so check both daycares) and also, there is a daycare in colosseum (I think. it's been a long time since I played that game. If there is one, it's probably in Agate village) and finally, do you have a kid brohter or sister that plays pokemon? If so, check their game! :D

I personally never technically "lost" any pokemon, but I have found pokemon in some random box or daycare that I had completel y forgotten about or thought that I had already released, so yeah, it's weird when stuff like that happens.

I ALWAYS lose my pokés... Currently I can't find Overgrow (my meganium) and my espeon, both of which I left in LG, i really think there should be a search feature to prevent this sorta thing happening

There IS a search feature in Box, and it also searches the boxes of the GBA cartridge you currently have inserted as well as Box's own boxes (does that make sense?!). That's how I established that Swampert wasn't on any of my cartridges, without going nuts staring at tiny little icons for hours on end.

My Swampert turned out to be in Colosseum. I remember transferring him there to be part of my Battle Mode team. I DON'T remember failing to transfer him back again. I could swear I'd been using him for breeding more recently than that... oh well!

Has anyone tried using the Mark feature to keep track of Pokemon?

I've used it once or twice to identify Pokemon i'm using for breeding, but other than that i've found it pretty useless. Nicknames are a better way to do things, as are letters.
