Getting Onion Knight on Final Fantasy 3

I kind of wanted to do this, but I don't remember how. What do we need to do? And also, if you want, I can go to gamefaqs and see if anyone else will help our plight.(:

In the DS remake, the player must send a Mognet letter to each character in the game, as well as one to another person playing Final Fantasy III. Afterwards, the player must send 4 letters to Topapa, and after receiving the fourth, you will be told that some children are in danger. Go to Altar Cave and rescue the children from the Bombs. Afterwards, you will be given the Onion Knight job.
In the European version, the player must send 7 mail to a friend and 4 to Topapa. There are no other differences.
