I recently returned after being on hiadas for the entire ALA block and am wanting to draft this Friday. I was wondering if I could get a general overview of how drafting in ALA goes what I should be going for? I looked at a couple other posts and articles and I think I like Jund and I think I understand the basic concept behind picking a... "planeswalker" like jund and then drafting their colors but I don't understand the intricacies of the set. Any advice would be cool or a link to other posts or articles on the subject would be great as well. I've inserted a link to a ALA draft I recently did feel free to comment on the noob choices I've surely made.

What no love? Not even a STFU noob. I'm insulted... well if no one feels like explaining anyone have a FAQ or another link something that might be helpful? I've been reading http://draftbetter.com/ and his thoughts seem to be helpful but he doesn't really have a walkthrough just his drafts.

thanks for the link, checking it out now :)
The Alara Block set is based off of 3-Color Guilds, similar to Ravnica. Each has certain qualities and etc, but that's not what you're asking.
As with all drafts, you draft the color/s that appear to have the best cards. But with Alara Block, there is some difference. You choose always try and get Red cards, because 3 of the 5 guilds use those colors. That way, you can splash for the last two colors, without forcing yourself into a certain theme.
The deck also uses the ability 'Domain', so focusing on that is useful. Some decks that work nicely are 'Grixis Unearth', 'Naya Power Five', 'Jund Aggro', 'Esper Beatdown', and 'Bant Exatled'. Focusing on researching those themes, and discovering what's best is a good way to start.
Not much, but hope I helped. Just draft, draft, and draft. See what works for you.
