after the great wining of Jeff Jones in the first shonen after the new restriction list, i was thinking that this deck will be the dawn of the new format, along with LS, glads and maybe bw (and now we must add synchro cat to this group)....
But i was checking the decklist and top 8 of the Canada Nationals and i didnt find ANY of this decks.....
What happened to dark drain???

1) Jeff Jones won because he was lucky, and because Dark Drain was unexpected. Since then, a huge number of people have netdecked Dark Drain; people are more prepared for it, side more against it, and know how better to play around it.
2) People learned how to play Blackwings properly. Blackwings CRUSH Dark Drain totally.

That pretty much sums it up. Dark Drain is too inconsistent and is a futile attempt to revive the DAD deck.

It just doesn't have the ability to stand up to the constant pressure that Synchro Cat, BW's, and LS can put on it. The deck is far too reliant upon Skill Drain, and is easily sided against. Maybe it will get better when Tragoedia comes out, but then the Dark Drain variant might disipate.
Sad too....I was building it, but when I tested it, it got completely trounced by the other decks types.

The only reason it won was because Blackwings didn't get the proper support it needed, and, as Ice-eyes mentioned, it was a novelty. Now more decks are prepared for it but it's strength lies in the fact that not many decks can boast that it can get past it excluding Blackwings and Synchro Cat drawing Heavy/Trunade early game.

It was unexpected as commented above, nobody expected it.

Jones made a really good metagame call. SKilldrain wrecked because the majority was playing GB at the time.
Yeah DaDrain died. Jones is playing it still tho at nats. xD WOuldn't suprised if he topped because Its still a good deck..

Dark Drain is still good tbh, though it may be in the lower position of Tier 1.
At least it does decently against Cat.

It does well against almost everything except blackwing. It's still a very good deck. I wonder if Jones has changed something from it's original build for the nationals.

Still a solid deck IMO. Just other decks, and the players have evolved to take it out.

After awhile players get used to dealing with a certain deck type as well. No one was expecting Skill Drain to rear its ugly head again. Barbaros opened the door back up.

Very funny spam...
Anywany, like it's said in the first response, people are more ready for that type of deck, so they side appropriately against it. The only chance of Dark Drain being efficient is for it to get a really good side deck! Otherwise, it's totally owned, and activating Skill Drain is like 1000 lifepoints down the drain.
