Patron's Land
Legendary Land

At the beginning of your upkeep, put a charge counter from Patron's Land. When Patron's Land becomes tapped and if there are even number of charge counters on it, add :b: to your mana pool and you lose 1 life.

:t:: Add :b: to your mana pool. You lose 1 life.

At the beginning of your precombat main phase, if there are exactly 5 charge counters on Patron's Land, sacrifice Patron's Land. If you do, you lose 3 life and add :b::b::b::b::b: to your mana pool.

:t:: Remove a charge counter on Patron's Land. Add :b: to your mana pool.

Ugh. This is nigh unplayable. Which is too bad, because I like the flavor, and I like the subtle tie-in to Lucky; but getting 4 free mana on turn 6 in exchange for never tapping this for mana (oh, and losing 3 life) before that is just soooooo bad. I'd think a more standard CIPT clause would work much better than "remove a charge counter" and doesn't dramatically increase the power level.. either way, you can't tap this for mana first turn anyways.

It's a bad storage land, inferior to the originals for the most part.

Editted so that it has an occasional :b::b: production. (which is probably OP for most lands)

If I remember right there were once a debate on whatever 0 is even or not (pre-Lorwyn).. I think it was in redux or in someone's sig for some time as a result of this..

Zero is even according to Ashling's Prerogative (http://ww2.wizards.com/gatherer/CardDetails.aspx?&id=146595).

Edit: Right, you did say pre-Lorwyn...
