View Full Version : An Anime convention...and Kara cosplaying?

That's right. The "SakuraCon" anime convention might have been
Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, but I am still exhausted from it's
intensity and chaotic fun (and I accidently got hurt there, too).

I attended all 3 days as a genuine "Guest of Honor", complete with
all the sweet VIP treatment/event seating and lots of other stuff.
(got to do it for re-designing the convention's sponsor's logo)

My 1st time ever Cosplaying, as a character from my #1 fave Anime
called "Naruto". The character that I went dressed as? "Kankuro"

Have yet to develop all the photos I took, but until then, enjoy the
awesome pics that are found on this site:

http://www.fansview.com/2005/sakuracon/sa2005.htm

And for some weird "editing", check out my friend Matt's pics.
(so glad to have run into him again - at least now we got each
other's RL names correct, and exchanged our email addresses;
the animated pic in there is his creation - he is actually going
to college at "DigiPen" over by Nintendo's Redmond warehouse)

But the wildest part of all, besides seeing FREE YAOI on stage?
(some hot, sexy guys dressed as J-Rockers actually kissed...)

This friend of mine from 2 different websites.....

.....kept coming up to me, glomping me, and putting on a hilarious
little skit due to the fact that he was Cosplaying as the brother
of the character that I was dressed as (said stuff like "Dearest
Brother - Where've You Been?" The guy totally cracked me up).
Usually, I'd be uber embarassed to get glomped by someone I don't
really know (except for my bud John who did it last year...LOL),
but something about that guy made me really smile. And gave me
an "interesting" sensation, as well. Hmmm... I wonder if he's single?

Anyhoo, enjoy the pics (both cool and, um, rather odd) and I'll
post my own as soon as I'm able to get them developed.....

Oh, and btw, there's a pic on that 1st site of "Blackjack Gabbiani"
from Bulbagarden - Cosplaying as J.P. from Digimon series #4.

There's an A-Kon in Dallas, June 3-5. This will be my first any-type convention. I can't wait! :D

I can't sew and I don't have money to buy costumes, so cosplay is out.

Yaoi makes me sick.
Actualy, most things related to anime make me sick, but Yaoi is deffinatly the worst of all.

Anyways, glad you enjoyed yourself and that other cosplayer fella.

Live... Yaoi? Live... Yaoi? Live... Yaoi?

*AHEM!* Ew.

Well, that's gotta be a high paying job, at least.

Heh... Anime conventions are the best. No matter where you turn you're surrounded by fans who you know are just as crazy as you. It's always a great time being at one, although extremely chaotic :D

If I ever had the energy to cosplay I'd go as Lina from Slayers (my favourite anime character), but if I could pick up an official Pokemon League cap I'd design a jacket like Ash's and stick some of my toy PokeBalls on my belt ^^

I'm throwing you a line here. Please expand on that statement. Like, you hate yaoi because you don't like seeing heterosexual characters made gay for the sake of someone's story...?

At least I have no problem with his beef...

I personally don't like it in reality, but Yaoi anime and manga
are the one way that a gal can find her fave characters nude.

Linkachu, there was A LOT of Poke'mon cosplayers this year.

Cosplay.com has 220 pages of pics, and there are fantastic
shots of a girl who went as Ash Ketchum this year (even had
very authentic hair, jacket, and fingerless gloves...she rocks)

If anyone is interested in looking them up on that site, look
up the member known as "Eurobeat King" - he's the one who
got 220 pics from the convention and put them all online...

And I will be able to show a pic of me soon! A friend of mine
from the official SakuraCon message board has informed me
that her pics are to be put online soon, and she took a great
photo of me and a girl who was cosplaying as my character's
sister (name: "Temari" - & was the best out of the 3 I saw).

I don't like gays period. Making a character gay so you can get off on it is even worse, but that's like comparing being shot to being stabbed and deciding which is more unfavourable.

Okay, whatever..... I respect that...

But I got it! My friend at SakuraCon's board put up the awesome
pic that she took of me standing beside a girl dressed as Kankuro's
sister (and teammate) Temari (and hers was the best there...).

(if you don't know squat about Naruto, then I'll make it easy on ya
----- I'm the overweight gal dressed in black; LOL - just noticed
that my backpack and Guest of Honor badge made it in the photo)

Uh... Lee said HOLY FAN. I think he was referring to the size of the fan, rather than the size of the Kara!

And, my God, that IS a big fan.

Fraudian Slip: To accidently say what you mean, not what you want to.

Just for people who want to know ;) :p

And yet still people haven't answered me yet.....WHERE THE HECK'S THE FAN?!

Stupid double-meaning words....*grumbles*

Lady Kara

They're referring to Temari's weapon-of-choice.

In the manga/anime of Naruto, the character known as Temari
uses a massive fan as a weapon (does cool wind tricks among
other unusual uses during battle). The girl Cosplaying as her &
standing beside me in this photo, went and got herself a really
huge and "very authentic looking" fan to go with her costume...

(I'm proud of her effort; heard that she spent until 4am the
morning of the convention working on painting it to look right)

Oh, and I might have some cool photos soon - getting all the
ones I took developed! Might be done sometime this week...

Um... what do you think that enormous white thing with three blue spots is? Wings?
