Consuming Force :3::g::r:

Creature - Elemental Spirit

Trample

:1::g:: Search your library for any number of basic land

cards and reveal them. Shuffle your library, and then put

those cards on top of it.

Whenever [CARDNAME] deals damage, put that many cards

from the top of your library into your graveyard.

5/5

I'm thinking that once this beast of a creature -- 6/6 trample for 5 mana -- starts attacking, mana severancing yourself won't matter too much.
It's already more powerful than Spiritmonger because of the color combo and Trample. Also, Consuming Force sounds way too black for this card, IMO.

the name doesn't necessarily seem black to me, but the ability sure does. . .you have to deal less damage than it would take to deck yourself anway, so the drawback isn't really that bad. . .

Notice that it's *all* damage, not just that which is dealt to a player, or even combat damage. The "drawback" is also a weird sort of advantage, btw, pilot. As for why the ability is black... I just plain don't see that at all.

PS: I think the name feels less black if you think of it as a "force" of nature. That's what I imagine when thinking of a picture for this card, is kind of a large green mass chewing on a really big tree.

PPS: This was originally a 5/5. I thought it was balanced at that point, but i constantly get the complaint that my cards are underwhelming, so I thought i'd beef it up. Guess i'm not gonna listen to complaints anymore. =P

5/5

This one could be an interesting take on drawbacks, if it did not have a built-in ability to make it a pro instead...
5/5 trampler for 5 (gold) is ok, so it should not need a drawback, but giving it an extra ability maybe a little too much. If you are going to deck yourself, you just put it aside and do not attack/block with it... i.e. the milling ability of an Arc-Slogger is never a drawback as long as you control its activations...
Maybe make it bigger and remove the land stacking ability would fit better...

That's kind of the point. I don't really care that he's a 5/5 beater with trample. This card is about the land getting/milling ability.

I would have to agree that the ability seems :b: :g:.
Eating lands seems black. Destroying them seems red.

Interesting ability.

Could be pretty neat with Crucible of Worlds.

It's not eating lands. It's eating cards from the top of your library.

Well, yes.

But the ostensible strategy is to put lots of land on top and get it milled away so you dont have to draw it later.

In a way, its eating lands.

I agree... But cards from the top of your library, lands or otherwise, would be more blue than any other color. However, this is more based around red, as red is the color for riskiness. Which is what this guys second ability is.

Risk? Well, now I just don't see that.
This guy is almost totally risk free, save the remote chance of decking yourself. There are so many strategies based around getting cards in the graveyard, and with witness running rampant, it just gets even crazier.

there's ridiculous, then there's spiritmonger, then there's this

I love that quote (especially because it was true at one time).

Now that it's 5/5, it's a lot more reasonable. That ability just seems so abusable, but I have to say that I like it a lot. I also agree that this is G/B, not G/R. Milling yourself, while it has made a recent appearance in red, still fits better in black.

I'd like to play with this card - I think that that's a good sign. Nice work!

Notice that it's *all* damage, not just that which is dealt to a player, or even combat damage.

And it's the worse card for it. It has the potential to be such a wonderful skill game, if you made it only trigger when it hit a player...

Anyway, it's a nice update on scouting trek.

Hmm, I'm not sure I like this card all that much. The abilities are nice... but it seems rather bland to me.
