Altar Golem :7:
Artifact Creature-Golem, Rare
Trample
Altar Golem's power and toughness are each equal to the number of creatures in play.
Altar Golem doesn't untap during its untap step.
Tap five untapped creatures you control: Untap Altar Golem.
Meh. Just Meh.

another fat creature that won't see much play beside the timmies. although that's not always a bad thing, timmies need their fatties. might be good in draft, although you won't always have 5 untapped dudes.

The only way you're likely to get 5 other creatures to stick, is in some kind of elfball deck that can pop out tokens faster than your opponent can deal with them. I suppose if you plan on him being a win condition, you can swing with him and a stack of tokens and not worry about him untapping. Still, at 7 CC, and him really having no immunities (plus he's an artifact, so there's even more removal for him than other creatures) he's not likely to see much of any play. Decent finisher in limited possibly. That's about it.

Man...
Worst... Golem... Ever...
...and golems have had some real stinkers over the years.
Is there something I am missing here?

Well let's look at it this way. A while back we had a little guy, Beast of Burden. He costs 6, doesn't have trample, untaps normally, and gets his stats the same way. He saw play if memory serves. I can see the same use of this guy in a creature heavy deck. Effectively, you drop him, say you have the five creatures to untap him later. You have 6 creatures, and maybe your opponent has 4. He's a 10/10. Let's say you have him and 5 1/1s. Next turn, if he's still there, you attack. Your opponent is going to either have to block him, letting you kill their 4 creatures, of they're going to let him through. Either way, this could be vicious. And then you can leave him sit, letting your opponent know he's still there. Doesn't seem particularly awful, not great, but I can see him being one of those "deal with me now or i'll punch you in the neck" creatures. We'll see.

OK, there it is: you can go infinite with this dude + elemental mastery.
Tremble in fear!

Elf-Bomb just found a new playmate.

If you are at the point where that deck is going off why would you rather pay :7: to get a big trampler that may or may not ever get a chance to swing than pay :3::u: and draw half your deck, or :3::r: and go to the dome for a big chunk of life?

Because I've seen Elf-bomb having the elves out but no draw or burn in hand. Was just a thought.

Shenanigans... That's about the only way I can describe that combo. But seriously, if you're going to go off on an infinite tokens combo, Pilla-Palla+Presence of Gond+Heritage Druid is a LOT cheaper. (both in mana cost, and they're all commons/uncommons, not rares.)

but I love stupid combos. I won 2 matches at Grand Prix Indy with morselhoarder+Presence of Gond or Power of Fire ( I got both in my sealed pool) and Sinking Feeling. It was funny kid tapped out to do something. I put the rest of the combo on morselhoarder and started making tokens. I made one he puts a token card down I make another he puts another token card down. I look at him and say "uhh You know I am going to do this about a billion times."

I feel this will be a good card in draft! It will sit there until it can win in one swing! Not saying great but has the possibility of winning a game or two for swinging for 8 trample damage! Just my thoughts!

Even in limited I feel that tapping down your whole army(which may even have a higher combined power then him by himself) and swinging with him (leaving yourself wide open for a harsh counter strike[yeah especially after the aethertow humps this play]) is just... well a bad play. I would pass this guy for a really good common.

There has got to be some kind of blue or white card coming out in eventide that can just untap artifacts or creatures instead of tapping five of your creatures.
