I just noticed that Unstable Mutation is ridiculously good with the cards that use -1/-1 counters in Shadowmoor. Escpecially those with untap abilities.
For instance, Leech Bonder + Unstable Mutation is a 4/4 creature with vigilance which throws a -1/-1 counter for :u: each turn, minimum.
Buy your mutations NOW.

put that on not only a leech bonder but put it on the black ouphe that allows you to draw cards for its negative counters on it. Put counters on it draw cards when it is dead!!!

Too much excelent instant speed removal in standard for this. Nameless Inversion, Incinerate, Eyeblights Ending, Unsummon, Sulfurous Blast. And faries are liable to just use Sower of Temptation on the dude. Of course, the combo will be fantastic in casual play.

I think you're assuming that they aren't playing it on something turn 2 and attacking with it. Decks using Unstable Mutation will probably have a boat-load of 1cc stuff...and maybe even Ornithoper...leach bonder and the Ouphe are icing on the cake. At it's heart Unstable is a "stompy" card that enables 6 extra damage over 3 turns - and if it's played on turn 2 (opponents turn 1) then it's too fast for an incinerate, inversion, eyblights, sulf Blast, Shreikmaw, or Sower (and unsummon rarely sees play).
I'll never forget the old blue super decks that had 20 flying men and 20 unstable mutations in them (before the 4-card rule...now that was a long time ago).
