friend had Lord of D and some dragon card out.
I used Dark Hole.
he said his dragon was protected by the Lord of D.
i disagreed as i did not directly target the dragon with the dark hole which is what the Lord of D said it protected agaisnt.
That is also how it works in other games like Magic, global effects are not considered targeting effects.
Thanks for any clarification.
it only negates cards that SPECIFIACALLY effect dragons'
DARK HOLE affects ALL monsters so they will still be destroyed

Dark Hole destroys all of the monsters on the field. It doesn't care
what the stats of the monsters are. They are destroyed.

Dark Hole is mass-monster removal. Lord of D. and all his scaley chums are Singularity Food.

The dragon's are destroyed aslong as it doesn't target the dragons....
But I was to understand that dark hole was banned

You have to remember, it is only banned in the advanced format, so it only applies when playing in an offical event that is using the Advanced format.
So when you are playing friends you can opt to use all of the card in any number you want, as long as everyone agrees to the format played.

"Dark Hole" is banned...in Advanced Format (the format used in regionals, Shonen Jump Championships, Nationals, and Worlds, as well as most respectable sanctioned tournaments).
Traditional Format is still played at certain stores, and in that format there are no banned cards.
