View Full Version : Your Username - The Origin
antisuperheroguy
03-25-2005, 01:50 PM
How did you get your username? What does it mean? Do you use it anywhere else? How long have you been using it?
Theres more to Antisuperheroguy then just the beauty and the flow of the name, its something that is very special to me. Most of you probably think that it means i dont like superheros, i dont know how you can come up with that so quickly, but then again you arent in my shoes. About a year ago i was watching spiderman the movie for the first time, i admired him so. I saw through the movie about what he had to give up.. he had to give up his loved ones to be a superhero. I looked at myself.. i looked at all the loved ones that i care for.. and i thought that i could never be a superhero because of it. I could never give up my life and my loved ones.. i could never kill myself. never hurt myself.. never give up on my friends.
Thats pretty much it in a nutshell.
Maybe next time you see antisuperheroguy again, youll think of me as someone more then just the hate.

You'd be right. I did assume it was simply "I hate superheroes". Nice explanation ^^
Now, prepare for my boring rant (I hope it's accurate...):
Linkachu was inspired a long time ago through an AIM conversation with a friend (Stel). I'd been using the nickname "Raichu" at random places for years (since about early '99), but I'd never been able to settle on a unique design to represent it (for RP usage and such).
Anyways, during this random conversation the Legend of Zelda series came up. Stel said that he loathed Link with passion, but I responded that I liked the guy - especially his hat! Stated that if I had the hat I'd wear it everywhere I went. Dunno why, I just really, really liked it ^^
So we chatted on... Stel murmuring about not knowing what to draw next, when I jokingly made a comment about how a Moogle wearing Link's cap would be cute. Later added that a Raichu wearing it would be cuter, even more so if it had the Master Sword. Stel just kind of laughed, but after a few minutes he told me that he'd started drawing the silly critter. No particular reason why... Said that he just wanted to give me something for the heck of it.
My immediate reaction to the finished picture was "Linkachu! XD" and I guess the name kinda stuck. It started as just a simple image, but soon I was using it on various forums as an avatar, RP persona, etc.
This place (or should I say the previous Pskool forums) was the first time I actually used the nickname Linkachu, mainly because I wanted something semi-original yet still Pokemon-related. Besides that... I think Raichu was already taken ;)
And thus you have it. The history of Linkachu. Whee! …
Gary Oak

Okies, here's my story once again. Definitely about the fifth time i've told this now:
I signed up on the 27th February 2001 with the name 'Jamesisnotgayherocks' with the simple aim of defending my favourite character in the Pokemon anime forum from the claims he was gay. Well, the next day I came back and found that my username didn't work anymore... I wonder why. :p.
So, I sat down thinking of what to re-register as. First thoughts turned to Ash, but there was another character that pwned Ash and I loved him for it. I loved every sporadic appearence he made and probably most of all, I loved his music from the games.
So, I became Gary Oak, doer of flaming and random yelling. And awesome RPing.
As for the recent update it's received everywhere else but here (I could have had it changed here too, but I felt that maybe for nostalgia if nothing else, I should keep it as it is for this place), that began life as a doodle in Maths class way back in 2001 too.
Basically, it was a logo, a Dr in a funky way, with Oak next to it and a small Oak tree somewhere around it. I didn't do much with it after that though, but I remembered it.
Then, back last year after Pokecharms had been set-up again and the forums were going pretty ok, but before the dot com, I had the very sudden notion of changing my username on the forums (which was easy enough to do) to Doctor Oak. Then came Doctor Oak's clinic. It kinda just kept going really, I decided it was going to stick and i've signed up with it on anywhere and everywith since.
I think Doctor Oak is definitely better than Gary Oak, it's different and therefore applies the difference to me. Plus, I can tell people i've got a PhD in Pokeology. Which is fun, and might as well be true since you can get degrees and doctorates in things like Klingon and Elvish...

Of course you all remember Pohatu from BIONICLE. You know, that chivalrous, charming, charismatic Toa of Stone. Just like me. Well, I'm his #1 fan. So there you go. Pohatufan1.
(Actually the 1 wasn't deliberate; it was just that on the very first board I signed up on, Pohatufan was already taken, so I get to be Pohatufan1.)
And so it has been on every everything that I've ever signed up on since. EVERY everything. Except xanga. I didn't sign up on Xanga as Pohatufan1.

WELL at the time, I was like, 12, I was into Pokemon, and I was like OMGAWD VULPIX IS TEH CUTE!!!! because I was 12, right. And then since Vulpix was taken, I was like hey, 101. So I added the 101. And became THE BINARY MASTER. And this is the only place I'm signed up as Vulpix101.
Antisuperheroguy, I thought your name meant you were like the opposite of a super hero. Haha. Not some big story behind it though. Yeah. Neat, though. But since you brought up Spiderman, we have this student teacher that looks like a cross between this guy in my class and Tobey Maguire, and he talks like him and everything, it's incredibly weird.
Yeah i have posted this a number of times as well. However i shall tell you all again.
Back when i was 13-14 (im 19 now) just before i joined my first ever internet forum, I got the nickname Coco from my friends because i would come to school every day eating those small boxes of Coco pops that you get in those packets of 8. The name stuck for a while and when i signed up for this forum its the only thing i could think of that wasn't to lame.

Hydro Typhoon
03-26-2005, 11:06 AM
My old username, Pokémon Master Josh, is pretty obvious, cos I like pokémon and my real nameis Josh... but as my user was blocked here, I took my favourite RP character's name, Hydro Typhoon, who was meant to be a water trainer (hence the watery name) but turned out to be just a normal trainer...
I'm known as Venusaur elsewhere, because Venusaur is my favourite pokémon, and PMJ and Josh in other places...
[Edit:Hah :-p. Enough about that rubbish.]

I think my life would have been so much better if you would not have added that last paragraph, please take it away, i think everyone could careless about that name.
Well, my name is very, very simple.
When Brad told me to sign up on here i could only be 2 things, RLRL or Purest, i went with RLRL as those are my initials (Rupert Lee Robert Lutz) and because Purest is a name other people call me sometimes (its derrived from using predicted text on an sms message, 787378 comes out purest before rupert so my friend used 2 call me purest in txts because he thought it was funny)

RLRL: interesting, I thought it meant Right Left Right Left. Obviously I've been playing far too much Space Channel 5 (right left right left chu chu chu!) (well, I did write a SPC part 2 faq which is my only published work on GameFaqs... how sad).
If you care, this is what a Baratron is and why I use it as my login name (http://www.livejournal.com/users/baratron/289324.html). It's extremely geeky.

Heh. You guys make my name look so unoriginal. Mine's simple -- my first and middle initials, followed by my last name. I use it without the j on a couple of other message boards. I was actually going to be dkates here too (this was on the previous forums), but something went wrong with the registration, so I used an alternate address and made a different account as djkates.

My old name, Trainer_Yoshimitsu, is possibly the worst thing I've ever thought up. First off, I was playing Soul Calibur 2 for too much, hence Yoshimitsu. Then, I figured that it was pokeschool, and added Trainer_.
This name is the whole Yoshimitsu thing again, and so that people recognise me, and the day of my birthday, the 27th.

Funny that NO-ONE else on this board even so much as thinks of putting you anywhere near SCII in connotations. In fact, a completely different game all-together. Bet you're wishing you probably picked a better character too... Eh, Yoshi? :p
Lady Kara
03-26-2005, 07:43 PM
My old name, "Kara 64", was a derivitave of the one I use now.
Now it only appears in my email address. The "64" was from N64,
of course. And as for "Kara", well... That is an interesting story.
"Lady Kara" is the name I came up with when I first went online
back in 1996 at a world-famous Legend of Zelda fansite known
as "Zelda Headquarters" (and where I met my best bud, Jenny).
The "Lady" part is understandable with my love for RPGs, but as
for the second half - it's not only one of few names I can write
in Japanese katakana, but it's also my RL nickname..... ^_^

Gibby
03-27-2005, 07:10 AM
How did I come to the name of Gibby??? Well, that is a boring story. However, for the sake of everything else that is here, I shall put it anyway.
Back when I was in the 6th grade, my and a few of my friends were just sitting around on the playground during one recess. Nothing much was going on, and we were just talking, telling jokes, sharing experiences, blah, blah, blah. We were never much into playing except for playing cards or video games.
Anyway, one of my friends all of a sudden got an idea. “Hey, lets give each other nick names???” He had no reason what so ever for deciding that, but we all agreed and started working on names that would work for each other.
My friends ended up with several names that represented their personalities: Skittles (for he eats Skittles every day), Raven (for he liked to stride the school, watching over everyone (he was also the tallest person in the school)), Kain (for no reason what so ever, he just liked it), Turtle (for he was slow at getting any joke what so ever), and then me, Gibby.
My name was derived from my last name, Gibson. The reason for choosing this name was because we could not find any other name that went well for me. Anyway, Gibson is my last name. As you can see Gibby and Gibson both start with Gib. When a friend of mine took off the son in Gibson, and added a ie to it, Gibbie came around.
Originally, my name was spelled Gibbie, and that is how it stayed for a year or so. However, for some reason, the ie started to bother me, so I changed it to a y, changing my name now to Gibby.
It is strange now for none of my friends go by their nicknames anymore except for me. For some reason, that name stuck with me and has never left. Everyone, from my doctors, to my new friends (and my old ones as well), my teachers, everyone in fact, including my family, call me Gibby. The name has replaced my first name basically, and it is rare to hear that name from anyone anymore.
The following is just a story on where something strange happened related to my name.
I was a member of a play a few months ago entitled “A Comedy of Errors” by William Shakespeare. While I never made an appearance on the stage, I was a part of it. I played the music for the show when it was required (no, not pressing a button on a CD player, I actually played music).
Anyway, he put my name in the bulletin. However, when I got a copy of it and took a look, it said the following as my name … Giddy Gibson: Sophomore, Mathematics Education, Music Director and Player for the Play.
Giddy??? Yes, they do sound the same, but I know explicitly that I wrote as legibly as I could that my name was Gibby. Anyway, I found that quite funny, and I have kept a copy of that bulletin for myself.
PKS LeeTupper

Giddy??? Isn't that the really obnoxious guy in the Mauville PC?
Enough of that.
My name is Leander Tupper. And I have not yet gotten Cheddar to realize that I have a PKS stuck to my name. That is all.

*laughs*
Lugiasian came from a weird attempt to think up something cool. I thought of Lugia, and thought of something cool that could go with it. (I didn't want to use Blu-Ize-White Dragonmaster, my firstr ever forum username, because it was a Pokemon forum.) Lugia Trainer? No......Lugia Master? Too cheesy. Then, I thought of the awesome idea of adding 'asian' to Lugia. Hence, Lugiasian was born.
But, like the idiot I was at 11, I messed up and put 'Tamer of Lugias' where my username was supposed to go. I don't know why I even chose Tamer of Lugias, I'm the Goddess of Lugias. :p So I messed up big time and was forced to be called TOL by everyone I knew(which wasn't too many people, at that time I was still an ickle n00b.) Once the forums were moved, I changed my name to my true name: LUGIASIAN.
I'm also known as DreamSorceress, which was somewhat inspired by looking at the Dark Magician Girl, among other anime. GigaMegaMario is my GameFAQS account, but it's not upgraded yet :p Goldenstreak*Latias is another account of mine, although I dunno what I was thinking when I thought of that O_O My Neopets account is terradragon32...although I caven't checked back in like, forever....
Prof. Cinders
03-28-2005, 10:55 AM
Me? Plain and simple origins; at least for me. When I was in junior school, I broke up with my friends almost twice daily, although once in year six I broke up with them for a whole week. I needed some more friends, so I went to the other geeks in my class. Since this was in the first era of pokemon, they had decided to write a book on the different types of pokemon, and were specialising in a certain type each. I made friends with them, and hence became "Prof. Cinders" specialising in fire. We never wrote the book, being 10 years old at the time, but the name stuck. I made friends again, and went on my happy life, forgetting the nickname.
Three years later, I'm surfing the web one lunchtime with nothing to do. I've never been on a forum before at this point, so search for "pokemon forums". It comes up with stuff like "Serebii" and "Pokemon Elite 2000", but one name catches my eye: "Pokeschool". This sounded like my kind of thing, so I looked on it. It looked great. I read a few fanfictions, because I've always loved stories, and decided to join... without my parents' permission (I now have it, so don't worry about that). Thinking up a nickname was hard, but I tried to remember back to when I truely liked pokemon. The first thing I could think of was "fire", and then "Prof. Cinders". This sounded appropriate, and I've been the Prof officially for over a year now. Go me!
Linkachu
03-28-2005, 11:21 AM
For being a "plain and simple" origin, it was quite a long explanation ;)
I forgot to answer the second part of this topic...
I'm now using the name Linkachu at a few different places: Serebii.net (although I've abandoned the account), a new forum called Zeal Revolution (owned by some old forum friends of mine), as part of one of my AIM s/n', and as part of my MSN account addy.
I have tons of other nicknames used around the web but to type out all their origins would be boring. I've just never been the type of person to stick with one name long. Raichu is definitely my most used name, but even it's off-and-on usage.
stephanitis
03-28-2005, 03:21 PM
Wayback in the day of when me and Lee wasted away in the 7th Grade social studies room, there was a teacher. My name is Stephanie and so he called me Stephanitis. So one day Lee says, "You need to sign up for the forums!" So i head home and get on yadda yadda. Just as I'm pondering my username my dad yells down that we are leaving to somewhere and whatnot, so I quickly type in stephanitis, even forgetting the shift to make it uppercase.
And it stuck with me and I like my name! ^_^

Mine is simple, really...
I tend to sympathize with young female characters who have issues regarding relationships and who could be successful, but for some strange reason (bad luck, laziness, utter feelings of hopelessness) aren't. Since this is a pokemon site, I decided Jesse fit my personality best. She's so frustrated that her dreams of success aren't panning out like she hoped. I just wished I looked like her and had her sweet, sweet boyfriend. I use this on www.trsrockin.com , here, http://porygontwix.proboards19.com , and www.fanfiction.net .
My user name is actuallly exclusive to this board(You should all feel special). Every where else i am RagingHobo.

03-28-2005, 08:35 PM
My username... boring and stupid. I had been lurking around the original CCGcenter forums for a while, and had been pondering a name. I was reading LotR at the time, so I saw the name of Aragorn's sword, Anduril, aka the Flame of the West. So I'm all like, that's cool, why not use it. I waited for a day before signing up, and in that span of time, I forgot how to spell the name, so I accidentally put an 'n' instead of an 'l' at the end.
I use it only for my Photobucket account. In ev nova related boards, I use Requiem, becuase it sounds sci-fi ish and because it was the name of my ship. But no one really wants to know that.

I only use this name on Pokemon sites, actually for some reason I used Damien on Pokecharms. Normally I use the name SoulFragment which didn't come from anywhere really I just wanted a kind of poetic name and thats what came to mind.
The name Pikachu isn't taken on most Pokemon sites?

AnimeStarr
03-29-2005, 03:05 PM
Mine is simple. I like Anime and I had to think of something to add on to it. Originally it was going to be Chikk but it didn't work out. I settled on Starr because I thought is was cool and feminine. As you can tell I like altering the spelling of words a little. It may not be the most original but it's me. That name is unique to this forum. I use different user names everywhere. I even have two different names for Yahoo and AIM.
If I could I would change AnimeStarr to something else. I'm a little tired of it. Maybe something with 2.0 on the end of it. If I changed it I would have to start all over and I don't want to lose my post count. Look how long it took me to get the 100-odd posts I have now, and I've been here a while.

Guys should not giggle.. at all. Thats usually only what girls do; or maybe it is.
Sometimes i wonder what wouldve happened if i were to actually sign up with Jamisonmaximous, PoserDubious, or something else. Would people still treat me the same with such confusing names? If they thought they couldnt figure me out, what would they do? I could attack several screen names that have warped my opinion of certain people, but i wont do that. Atleast everyone can atleast think that i hate super heros, not that its the true personality of me. But thats what our names do, they help explain ourself to the person thats trying to learn about us, or trying to do something. Sometimes names are special, sometimes theyre fun, sometimes theyre random, sometimes theyre meant to be sad, sometimes theyre meant to get attention, sometimes its just plain annoying and you have to sign up with another name. Ive apparently became all but the last one, i could NEVER use any other Screen name now that i realize how special this one is and how its helped me become who i am.
I think ive always tried to come up with special names for AIM and such.. ive been JamesBlonde007, GumballWarrior, PoserDubious, ForgottenImage, Jamisonmaximous, and some other insanely weird ones.

I was originally several variations of racheld3, stuff like racheld and racheld2, because they're my first name and the initial of my surname (plus a number in most cases). This was the first forum I've ever been on, and so I used something new. Now variations of Prof. Cinders follow me everywhere, like profcinders and prof_cinders. So anywhere other than places I joined years ago, you can usually find me as a variation of Prof. Cinders.
