You can set you WFC settings from the main screen.

Does obtaining your Friend Code need you to have a Router? I do have one, but am too having trouble connecting it.

You don't need a router to have a freind code but you do need one to go wirelessly. You get the freind code by getting a pal pad from the lady downstairs. It may be upstairs I forgot.

To see your Friend Code, simply use the Pal Pad, and it will be available that way. On a side note, here's my friend code, in case anyone wants it. I'm not ready for battles though, I'm still leveling up my Pokemon and working on making teams. The only level 100 Pokemon I have are legendaries and ubers, and I hardly ever use those, unless someone wants to do an uber battle. Even then, I only have a few Lv 100 legendaries/ubers. Anywho, here's my Friend Code:

You need a wireless router to connect to Nintendo Wi-Fi. If not, you can always go to a public area with Wi-Fi capability. There are some McDonald's out there that has Wi-Fi.
