as an additional cost to play cardname, chose a number
cardname deals x damage to each of your creatures.
each creature you controll gets +x/+x

So 2 mana "I win the game".

State-based effects aren't checked until the resolution of a spell so they will have enough toughness to survive, barring something like furnace of rath in play, and you don't need the "choose a number" bit.

actually, you pay the costs, and then the spell goes on the stack and state based effects are checked, and later, when the spell actually resolves, they get the +x/+x bonus. a lot can happen until then, including your opponent playing a starstorm for example.

As written, the damage is not part of the cost...

yes it it, it's just that the formatting is off (and I'm sure the wording isn't spot on). I really don't like the entire "ability as a cost thing" it always looks ugly to me.

Damage can't be part of a cost.

Choose a number. ~ deals that much damage to each creature you control, then each of those creatures gets +1/+1 until end of turn for each damage dealt to it this turn.

Actually it's not. There's a linebreak between choosing a number and X damage being dealt and that makes all the difference.

You cannot cite lack of proper grammatical formatting as an excuse because then we can interpret the card in several different ways that will ultimately result in me being annoyed and you looking silly.

I reiterate, there is no need for "choose a number". Simply applying an X variable will work.

what does not kill you only makes you stronger.

It looks like global berserk without trample and without killing your creatures at end of turn.

You mean if I do this-

Supershock - :r:
Instant
Supershock deals X damage to target player.

I can just choose any number for X? O_o
